  1. I don’t think I would like to be the guy that tries to explain this to the FAA. I believe that even the flights that move pets around are done as donations by donating flight expenses and pilot receiving satisfaction for compensation but no money but there are others here that can correct/clarify if I am wrong.
  2. CFI is definitly harder than CFII. '\,go with the CFII
  3. Have a 30-3g headset as my secondheadset. Needed work so I called light speed and they told me they don’t repair them any more but they would give me credit toward a new headset. It was just for a broken cup stirrup and I found one on eBay so being a CB I ordered parts and repaired them on the cheap. This was just a few months ago
  4. The other day I landed in an airport west of Tucson and low and behold there was a Mooney with the cowl off but engine running.I walked over and introduced myself and was told the story about why it was there. The wife was flying when it swallowed a valve and she performed an emergency landing. The plane was a wooden winged Mooney and they had replaced the jugs and was completing the post flight test flight so I got to watch the father aged 79 fly it out to its california home. In all this I got to meet the wife, her husband and the father and get to see an original wooden wing Mooney. Overall a great day
  5. At my airport I am the only lonely Mooney however at the airport 6 mi away there are 5. 3 c’s and 2 e’s
  6. No problem I just didn’t want to direct somebody toward a local plane if I knew one in the fold was a money pit and cause an unnecessary prebuy
  7. Was the plane from the area? I have an E model in bald knob and if anybody ask since people ask from those familiar with a model I would need to tell them to be careful looking at Mooneys if 1 is bad and not point at one specifically
  8. Dang I am headed to work in the morning or I could have been tempted to fly over there. I am at bald knob about 90 miles west so it would hav3 been a good excuse to exercise my plane
  9. I designed one with a turntable for the nosewheel to sit on to prevent any oversteer damage. search under towbar and all the specs are there and you can put any design hitch on it you want. I am headed to work this week but can get info and /or photos if you need
  10. I have flown and instructed in all of these models and they all have plusses and minuses. The luscombe is long legged so it makes it a little more demanding than other taildraggers but not unflyable according to the pilots skill in crosswinds. The Taylorcraft is an all around forgiving aircraft it lust has fabric and if it still has the 65 hp then you will have to hand prop it. The Ercoupe is another favorite and if you get a later model it will have rudder pedals to teach coordinated flying skills.
  11. man that is a loaded question. i would suggest make a list of must haves and nice to haves as a start . maybe fly with some other people or rental planes to see about avionics and then with youre list you can begin to formulate what exactly you are looking for and how it must be equipped, remembering avionics and repairs are more expensive after the purchase than buying it already configured like you want it
  12. by the way that is a beautiful panel. Maybe one of these days my plane can aspire to have a panel like that
  13. After reading this thread about cleaning the switch sub panel I went out to my hanger and cleaned the panel with a Mr Clean magic eraser. It cleaned the yellow off beautifully and didn’t damage the print. I was surprised how fast it worked. Took all of 5 min to have it looking good and I can probably make it look better with more supplies to work the tight spots
  14. most of our planes now are screens so I dim as much as the dimmer allows (which is limited) and deal with the brightness much the same as you that have the upgraded panels
  15. Here see if this helps. This is photos of my owners Manuel for a 1965 m20E
  16. The one thing that I find really useful is my fan. I have a big drum fan that I have changed the pulleys on the fan to reduce the speed to about 375 rpm This makes it quieter and still moves Enough air for a hangar. Of course I live in a warm climate and need to have this for summer time
  17. Thanks for the input. I will probably have my mechanic try method 2 to-degauss the bar. I checked the compass and it is fine outside of the plane but when brought to install it swings and is unusable
  18. Ok I need the collective Mooneyspace knowledge here.I have a problem of the whiskey compass not working properly on my E model. The windshield is the one piece windshield and somehow the bar that the compass is attached to has become magnitized causing my compass to become unusable Does anybody have an idea how to degausse the bar? My mechanic is scratching his head trying to figure out how to do this. Any help would be appreciated
  19. Paul please add me to the map. Thanks for what you do here
  20. Thanks for all the input guys browncbr1 sold me a macs cover that he had extra. Looking at it when it arrived it will be just what I need for those trips down to the gulf coast
  21. simple and elegant, thanks!
  22. the dryer i read about was home made and used an aquarium pump and i believe a 2 liter soda coke bottle for dessicant. it sounds like what you built
  23. somewhere a few years ago i read where someone built a dessicator for their aircraft engine. does anybody remember reading this article or have any of you built a dessicator or do you just buy one already built?
  24. thanks whenever i have a trip op there again and have time i will definitly take you up on that. Normally I have only a 1 hr turn time until pax arrive but would love to see the Lancair
