  1. Looks great! Enjoy!
  2. Good luck and enjoy! I bought my first plane a 1974 C about 3 years ago. I love it. Please post pictures.
  3. Unfortunately the price of vintage Mooneys have gone up dramatically. I fly a 1974 C out of Fredericksburg, VA and love it. The later model C's have electric gear and a reliable O360 A1D engine. Good luck with your search. Lots of Mooney's in our area and some good CFI's for transition training. The Mooney is a complex aircraft, will require an endorsement and will cost a new pilot alot for insurance. Good luck!
  4. It looks like it was a Grumman Tiger
  5. The 1975 F has electric gear while the 1968 G has the johnson bar. Both work well, but higher maintenance costs with electric gear and likely an AD. I would lean towards the F with fuel injection and 200hp. A nice forever plane.
  6. I confirmed with my installer and review of his schematics. It was a matter of me knowing less than I should have a few years ago. Here is a picture of my panel. The 209A is only connected to the KX155.
  7. Thanks, I was considering an HSI. I will reach out to my installer.
  8. Eric, thanks. It seems my current CDI is hardwired to my Navcom2 with my KX155 and not connected to IFD540. I plan to add another CDI GI 106A wired to my Avidyne.
  9. I am working on my instrument training now and have an Avidyne IFD540 with a King KI 209A CDI and I don't know how to get my CDI to receive GPS information from the IFD. I see the button on top right and put that in GPS mode, but I am still seeing my CDI only receive from my Nav2. Thanks in advance for any help or suggestions you can provide.
  10. My Dad bought his first plane in 1978 Cessna 172 for $28,500 and his second plane in 1982 Cessna 182RG for $52,500. In 1981 a new corvette was about half the price of a 172, now they are 7 or 8 times the price of a 172 and 15 corvettes to make the cost of a new Mooney. On the other side he sold both planes for a profit and I could easily sell my C for a profit even after adding the costs for upgrades. What does this mean? There are a lot of us in the market for used planes, but could not or would not choose to buy new.
  11. Nice C! I plan to spend time in Marathon as well. I keep my C in Fredericksburg, VA. I attached a picture of mine. I have had mine for 2 and a half years and working on my instrument rating now. I have not flown it south of North Carolina and Tennessee yet.
  12. Just my opinion, but we love and keep our Mooneys a long time. You will look under your plane frequently for pre-flight, maintenance and annual inspections. I would paint the whole plane, Mine was painted 10 years ago, before i purchased it but I still love the paint. As a plane the bottom is visible in flight so i would paint the bottom. Also, it seems a good clean waxed plane with nice paint will go just a little faster. Good luck!
  13. Someone had a nice RV6 nearly complete for sale including engine for $53K.
  14. I notice I generally exceed book numbers on my 74C, but I have most of the speed mods. It does especially well on climb.
  15. Not a sin, but please try to fly a standard pattern. I landed behind a Cirrus at Ocean City and I though he was heading to NJ before he turned downwind.
  16. A half quart per hour oil usage is high. I use a quart every 15 hours or so. Are you currently using that much oil?
  17. Stephen, my first priority in choosing my C was one that was flown regularly. Big benefit. Depending on where you are located try to visit the filed, meet some Mooney owners and get up for a flight. I assume you have your Private Pilot certificate. Note, you will need transition training, complex endorsement and will likely face high insurance costs for a few years.
  18. Yours look great! Nice panel
  19. Thanks, great information. I knew I needed the shafts, but was not aware of the still needing the retrofit kit. I was expecting I would need something else to drive the control linkages. I requested a price for the retrofit kit from SWTA
  20. I have a 1974 Mooney C with the old style vintage yoke and would like to upgrade. The retrofit part number is 940021-505, but I would also consider purchasing a used set from a J or other modern Mooney that would fit. Please let me know if you have anything available. A C dimensioned replacement control wheel would have a good market. I attached a picture of my current yoke.
  21. I started flying at 16 in 1981 in a 1978 Cessna 172 and earned my license at 17. The funny thing is now I fly a 1974 Mooney C and feel like it is not too old with electric gear, yet it is older than the plane I started flying in 40 years ago.
  22. Yes, I love it for planning a trip a few days out. It also helps to see the weather just outside of a normal briefing in accessing the risk of changing conditions. I have the app on my Iphone and use it via a web browser also.
  23. Great looking plane. Enjoy!
  24. My friend had his Bonanza painted there (Smoketown), they did a great job.
  25. A 1,700' runway is way below my personal minimums for my 1974 Mooney C. If you are not precise on speed a Mooney can float. Most Mooney pilots I speak with like at least 2,000' or 2,500' for minimums. In reality I generally use less than half of my 3,000' runway, but I like the margin for safety. For the I like a long wide runway. It probably stems from starting my flight training at Baltimore in the 1980's. Good luck!
