  1. Try Avemco. I received a great rate and great service. Also contact Parker Woodruff per above. He helped provide great guidance for me.
  2. It appears to be a fair price for a nice F. Good luck with your decision.
  3. Thanks, I am hoping to make the purchase during Oshkosh to leverage any discounts.
  4. I am considering adding an engine monitor and autopilot to my panel in a 1974 Mooney 20C. Has anyone installed an EI CGR-30. Do I need the basic or premium package? Are you satisfied with its performance? I am also considering going with JPI.
  5. Are you suggesting a flight plan is needed for local training? Why, is this controlled airspace?
  6. I plan to be careful not go after Class 3 Medical if I am not sure i can pass, but good point.
  7. I don't plan to fly outside the US or Bahamas and not over 18K and unfortunately I have not been successful getting my C anywhere close to 250kias.
  8. I agree with all of the above. Also, if needed please get good transition training with Mooney CFI that understands Turbo Mooney's. Temperature management is critical.
  9. How long does it take after completing Basic Med course and uploading medical exam information for your Basic Med certification to show up on FAA.gov site? Are you able to fly with your self assessment and certification form in the mean time. I uploaded my Basic Med yesterday and my 3rd Class Medical is good through the end of August. I plan on getting a Class 3 Medical again in early July and just operate with both. Any reason to just stick with Basic Med? TIA for responses.
  10. What cowling did you use? Beautiful plane!! It looks like a J
  11. Virginia gets me for $5 every year and they follow up like a pit bull. I guess I am lucky. I do hate to put the sticker on my plane.
  12. "Freedom" name came from previous owner and is painted on the tail section
  13. Welcome, sounds like you picked a great plane. Enjoy!
  14. Did you make a call on the unicom frequency and remind 172 of wind direction? He may have been making an intentional downwind takeoff, but more likely doing this in error. This could have had tragic results.
  15. Sorry this is happening to the aviation community in CA, but other parts of the county are moving less rapidly against 100LL. Hopefully we have a long time before we see that happen in VA and WV where I do most of my flying. I am strongly committed to flying and would have to consider relocating. TX is nice!
  16. How about Cumberland, cheap individual hangar and long runway. Is it too far?
  17. I made the transition a few years ago. Not bad, make sure you manage your speed and GUMPS. Once you fly the Mooney you wont go back to the Cessna.
  18. It looks like 25 acres at an air field with 300,000sf of warehouse for a reasonable price $50/sf. I suspect it will sell in this hot market. Not, sure what will be manufactured there next. Inventory and intellectual property can be split up on sold separately by Mooney or the property owner. I hate to see our brand end, but not sure about any realist alternative. Like many of us I fly a vintage Mooney and it meets my mission and budget.
  19. Yes, I have a 1974 C and purchased a set of used 201 yokes and shafts used. I had them wrapped by Hector Aerocomfort and installed. I haven't seen the finish product yet, but plan on picking my plane up from annual as soon as this weekend. I had the wrapped yokes delivered to my house. They look great. For some reason the vintage yokes look especially dated to me.
  20. Airmods has a great reputation for quality work. The price seems to reflect the damage history and looks to be a good deal. Recent flight history and a good pre-buy inspection should flag any issues. As others have said, aircraft of this age frequently have damage history which can be a non issue if repaired properly. Good luck finding the right aircraft for you.
  21. That is why I can't vote for a President from Fredericksburg, VA.
  22. Even with a good pre-buy and annual inspection, surprise items pop up such as starter, battery. Keep in mind Vintage Mooney's are over 45 years old. The journey is worth it, but not cheap.
  23. Best of luck, I bought my Mooney about 3 years ago. I live in MD, but keep my plane at KEZF Fredericksbug, VA where I have a great mechanic available. Enjoy the journey! A C is a great airplane, mine is a 1974. You should also consider transition training requirements. Byron is great as is Lee Fox down at KEZF. I have flown with both for Flight Reviews.
  24. I installed the Alpha without the inertia reels. They work great and look good. I do have to unlatch my seatbelt switching tanks without my extender tool.
