  1. think if i were based in denver and already at 5k with lots of plans for travelling locally and west, i'd be looking at the K. yes, the e/f/j would work but i'd be happier with the turbo. as for the kids, they really arent going to be travelling with you once they get older, so long as you pack efficiently you should be good
  2. 2x g5s would really be nice, flightstream is nice. i think i'm misunderstanding, why would you ever remove the 430w ???? if you add a gnc355, you won't need the flightstream
  3. non turbo, so probably not relevant. I've had birdy up to 15000 without issue, one day i'll get her to 18k
  4. there's a couple at hooks, really nice and super smooth, really expensive hamburger runs. I imagine if you got it up to it's optimal altitudes it'd prob be awesome
  5. i suspect, looking at the airports i'be been based at < 75% of those planes are even flying, wouldn't be surprised if it was far lower. I'd bet this storm, going over every airport i flew out of in florida, will get a few hundred planes.
  6. this is one where i say get in your plane and fly the hell out, this damn thing is supposed to be a hurricane from one side of florida to the other.
  7. I use a cig to multi cig/ usb-a and usb c adapter. you may have to buy and test a few different brands and models as some will generate noise in your avionics. this applies to cables also, even good cables at just the right length and orientation may generate radio noise. actually had this happen, one day while flying in the houston b, the radios just spazzed out, static everywhere, couldn't hear atc at all, pulling the usb cable out of the audio panel fixed teh situation.
  8. I"m the exact opposite, I can wire anything together but do NOT let me near any type of metal work.
  9. one thing, i studied the diagrams a bit, wiring on the dynon is amazing, basically it's all connected via 9 pin dsubs and a few extras. I'd be comfortable letting my ap install it. I'd be real tempted if the ap worked in an E
  10. Dynons are gorgeous, buddy has one in his RV. also your ap/ia can install the dynon
  11. that's true, i kept my sos but have noticed it'll start even without it.
  12. not for us specifically but is kinda interesting : Kitplanes Feature (danhorton.net)
  13. the advanced timing doesn't kick in till at altitude with reduced manifold pressures, won't impact starting at all.
  14. My surefly has always been set for advanced timing, never had issues. Don't remember hearing of any issues other than for turbo engines.
  15. glad you have all the money in the world. 12 to 18000 in labor for eqip that cost 10k hurts my wallet
  16. if you have gns 430/530 avidyne could be nice due to reduced labor cost but if you're starting from scratch, the most bang for the buck will be from g5s and gnc355 or gtn650xi. next would probably be gi275s, these are like g3x/g500 in mini form, really nice dynon and g3x would be next but even though the equip isn't that bad, Install cost gets ridiculous. do you already have an autopilot ? if not, then the gfc 500, trutrak and stec are about the only ap's available at the moment dynon is supposedly working on an ap but who knows when/if.
  17. garmin gi-275 or g5 with magnetometer, never worry about drift again
  18. really don't bother with detailed fuel planning any longer. for my 52 gallon mooney, i use ifr reserves 3hrs +- 30, might push it to 4 hours if it's severe clear. really, it's an hour out the first tank and by the time i run out of fuel in the second, im at the very least on approach
  19. My personal experience, had the same or really similar issue, spent a boatload of money replacing my main navigator and other things, but in the end it turned out to be the audio panel. I pulled it out, cleaned the contacts and reseated it, issue gone.
  20. I believe the engine mounts disengage causing the engine to depart the plane on first flight after 2000
  21. It really isn't, i still run it on my android phone, downloads actually work better
  22. Garmin Pilot on my samsung galaxy tab s8 was my favorite, the screen was head and shoulders above the ipad, it never overheated and came with an inbuilt gps by default, no cellular however. the software was a smidge behind the ipad version but it was really stuff i never bother using anyway. Unfortunately, it was stolen and the replacement was MORE expensive than the ipad, so now i run an ipad mini6 and an ipad air. also movies while flying looked better on the galaxy tab, i think it may have been brighter than the ipad at time.
  23. so probably not your issue but worth a try, mine was the audio panel, had to remove, clean and reseat it. I would get static and random times, across both radios ; would happen mostly when changing attitudes.
  24. this day and age, they'll take your plane and write you a check if you under insure, i'd just find a few on trade-a-plane and pick an avg price for your model
  25. ok, after about 110, there's a whole lot of cursing involved and i'd better be going on a trip, no putzing around at low altitudes when it's this hot
