  1. do both ? to be honest, i've never used/noticed that powerboost light
  2. plane doesnt' look all that banged up, hope they get back in the air soon.
  3. I want to replace one of the 7's with a new gps/comm/xm comm antennae, really want to get rid of atleast one of those warts
  4. forget the water bottle, i want that fuel selector. much better place for it
  5. you can fly lop just fine. do it under 65% horsepower and supposedly it doesn't matter as you can't hurt the engine, atleast that's what the book says
  6. If i had the Funds I'd go AP first then put in a garmin gi-275 engine monitor hopefully trutrak get's there stuff together before i spend on the AP
  7. I would complete the composite transition. maybe sell some composite parts and mods for the old fleet. then i would spend most of the money on making it possible to mass produce airplanes and lower cost. Major problem with planes, they are too damn expensive
  8. I have an E so maybe a bit different, try take off flaps, i find it to be almost easy mode when landing the mooney. for really short landings, final at somewhere around 75/80mph, pull power over threshold and just hold her off, you'll land and be off the runway well before 1000ft. as for not bouncing, consciously hold that nose off when the mains touch, don't let go. It may burble, your plopping down on a few hard rubber disc and a bouncy air-filled tire what can you do.
  9. I just made it back from ksgr, couldn't even tell there had been a hurricane.
  10. welp, i'm just going to say, NEVER EVER EVER take stock advice from me. KSGR is lining up to be about the single worst place to leave my girl. almost anywhere else at this point would be preferable
  11. doesn't sound right. my 1974 E, with electric gear has a useful load of 910+ dont' remember what it is at the moment. monroy tanks are really just fuel caps and some sealant, so that's not going to take up much of anything, well untill you fill them with gas looked into the 201 windshield for my birdy, it really doesn't add much weight, if any. no clue about speed brakes, why do you even need them ? the avionics are a wash if not lighter than the originals. with full tanks, I couldn't even fly in this plane. somethings not right
  12. from what i've read, reman, factory overhaul, overhaul are just variants of the same thing, all are expected to make tbo, all that to say, you could cancel the reman and go for an overhaul there or somewhere else
  13. I think so also, hoping we just get a lot of rain.
  14. spruce is in ft. worth, you can probably have a new one shipped by monday or tuesday. why in rush to get back, this place truly sucks after a major storm?
  15. to where did you fly? have to rethink my choices, darn storm is projected to hit every place i had on my list
  16. My thinking is fly her away from storm, somewhere entertaining and with commercial services. your insurance policy probably has a min distance, mine is something like 150mles. if beryl is anything like the last storm you could bring it over here to sugarland, it'll get some rain but maybe avoid the galveston flooding
  17. depends on the path of the storm, beryl, i'm probably gonna head towards dallas, memphis, durant, shreveport, etc... Not worried about a hangar, she won't melt being outside for a day or two
  18. Fingers crossed, I may not be grounded for the 4th after all, the wonderful people at Planeexhaust.net were able to fabricate a new riser in like an hour, should be here tomorrow.
  19. honestly, i'd wonder why it ended up at auction? auction aircraft scare me, is something really wrong with it ? gear up and prop strike is par for the course and old, no biggie. blowing up is a bit much. i cant' see any flight history, has it been flying ? if this was at my airport and my mechanic said the airframe was 100% i'd be interested, overhaul the engine, add couple avionics and you could still come out close to even.
  20. exhaust is pretty new, despite how the picture looks, the pipes are not corroded or worn. that's not really rust on the pipes. thinking maybe the crack had been there awhile and my last landing/planting was the last straw 8)
  21. you are correct, it's cylinder 1 in the diagram. thanks all
  22. anyone happen to know the part number. RH front, cylinder 2 - 1974 m20e io-360-a1a
  23. 100k hull @800 ish hours came to $2155 yesterday. getting painful
  24. The CDI is a KI-214 and it's probably unrepairable there are a couple of other ways to get an ils but eventually you'll give up and buy another radio/cdi. note, this is just for the ILS, i believe the radios work just fine for VOR/LOC with available cdis. you can buy kx170bs for a few hundred bucks, probably buy a dozen for the cost of garmins cheapest nav/com.
  25. My Birdy, except for a different panel layout and transponder, was equipped the same. she's since been upgraded with a gns480, 2xG5 and pma8000g audio panel. do it all over again i'd go gnx375 and g5's and be satisfied with localizer approaches. Truth is, the few time's i've needed precision like capability, the runways didn't have ILS. problem i found was with the radios, the mx/kx170bs don't directly support ILS and the necc component the king ki-214 is almost unobtainable meaning if you want ILS and LPV you might as well go full on gps/nav/comm.
