  1. Brittain magnetometer
  2. mine is just a stiff piece of aluminum in the tail, not much to fabricate. your IA/AP could make short work of it
  3. I assist when possible, Find a friendly AP/IA, wiring/connecting avionics is pretty simple. i defer fabricating to the professionals, i'm terrified of drilling/cutting/bending ANYTHING in birdy.
  4. what cruise and how long was it, really want to do this
  5. hat rack : gatz jar, pitot cover, random towels, trip log, tire pressure gauge, spare shirt( just in case ) hangar : couple pair of headsets baggage : tool box, with 3 quarts oil, screw drivers, speed tape, wrench, vice grips, etc...., tow bar, chocks, tie down straps, rope, blankets
  6. I was able to close the door on my E, think i was in a climb and slipped into the wind. If it hadn't closed i would've just ignored it till i landed somewhere, plane didn't fly any different. heck it didn't even provide a cooling breeze
  7. Vitol is just an energy trader, i can guarantee they want nothing to do with long term support/liability for your dinky airplane and most likely didn't think one bit about it. actually know them, could just call and ask. seeing what happened at und and even having a sense of airplane legal stuff, i bet if they had exposure, they'd probably BURN all million gallons rather than sell it
  8. is it me or does the E get faster in every article. started at 184 mph , last page had it at 190mph
  9. I notice i feel, "off", after flying for extended periods at > 8k ish. watching the pulse ox, i never go below 90/92 ish and it really only takes a few deep breaths to bring it back up. started taking a puff or two of ox every now and again, just to avoid that bleh feeling
  10. my 1974 manual states 52 gallons "useable"
  11. it's in the avidyne install manual
  12. I actually went g5's instead of the 275's just so i would have everything for the g3x
  13. my owners manual says never use aviation fuel lower than 91 octane or something, don't remember the exact wording. I'm guessing it was tested at some point
  14. Honestly, i haven't noticed a change in the hot start procedure, it might start a blade or two sooner ,shrug. flooded procedure seems to work better however
  15. why wouldn't it make sense to keep them, they do the same things. you may miss 1 or 2 minor features, are they worth the massive expense ?
  16. I have sierras and zulu3's neither of my lightspeeds do this. is it in the app? truthfully, i've never bothered to use the app. i mostly rely on my audio panel for any advanced functions. Just realized, i've never even bothered to read the instructions. really only use the anr and bluetooth NVM, actually just read the instructions, never even noticed the extra functions
  17. yes, it was a friendly chat WITH the FAA involved
  18. same happened to me about a month ago, except, i actually ahd a radio failure as in it physically came apart. reestablished comms and was given a number, sigh. about two weeks later they called requesting proof of the radio repair and installation, was told they would recommend no further action and was reminded of correct nordo procedures. the guy did state that it's mandatory they report all breaks in comms over a certain amount of time
  19. I"m most likely adding the seond sim at annual this year, I've had absolutely 0 issues with the first.
  20. just get the m20c, fly with an instructor till your comfortable. I went from rentals to an m20e as my first plane.
  21. actually looked it up, they are 1000lb straps. I bet the lasar tiedown point will break LONG before the strap
  22. I have a set of ropse but mostly just use a set of homedepot tie down straps
  23. how the heck is 45k about right for a prop strike inspection? i can overhaul the engine for about that. this guy just showed up when the girlfriend wanted a new shiney
  24. it automatically measures periodically say once per hour, but to get a current reading you have to change to the screen, sit still and wait for like a minute the finger pulse ox takes like 10 seconds, so i never bother to use the watch. if i didn't have the finger pulse ox, it would be perfectly fine
  25. shrug, i just grabbed an inexpensive one from Walgreens, Garmin watch does it also but it's so slow i never bother
