  1. if it's really all original, i'd go knx-375, adsb-in/out and gps
  2. you're gonna spend $$$$+ buying a new plane and getting it setup the way you want, making it kinda a wash. besides the avioncs anything else you want ? gi-375 and 2x gi-275 or even 2x g5 get's you everything you need for IFR, 275's even fixes your shotgun panel problem. from experience, if the brittain works, it goes a long way in IR training, truthfully, you may want to disable it every now and again to get real feel. Totally get it—my ’74 E was a bit of a mess in the avionics department when I picked her up. Since then I’ve added a new audio panel, GNC355A, G5s, GNS480, and an MD200-706. GNC215's going in next month too. Honestly, even if I’d dropped another 40 grand on a different plane, I’d probably still be right where I am now.
  3. yeah, it's taken < 1hr the 3 times i've had birdy certified.
  4. 1 week, 2 weeks if i help 8) of course that's just the annual and associated task, anything extra takes more time
  5. My E has strobes and a beacon
  6. Is there a replacement for the brackett that's on my E?
  7. Get the G5, it really is that much better. Gi275 if you're feeling spicy. I replaced my ai after it decided to ping pong around while in a cloud, i NEVER want that experience again. i chose the G5s as i figured i'd eventually go g3x but after flying with them for the last year, I think i'm good, Only feature i feel i still want / need is synthetic vision.
  8. planning, 1000ft, i'm not going if i can't plan for this. approach is mins including dip for lights. if before the approach, other aircraft are reported going missed, i'll divert to better conditions.
  9. give these guys a call, they really took care of me : Horizon Avionics – Horizon Avionics Blog
  10. depends on what you already have and your goals. the kx165 is a perfectly serviceable nav/comm and why bother paying for that functionality, the gnc215 doesn't do anything better. as for the 420, no, i'd def upgrade that to something newer. 355/375/even 175. I wouldn't bother with dual vors so no 650/750 either
  11. you have a leak, find the leaky seal/boot/hose
  12. thinkng about it a bit further, i'd keep the kx155 / cdi combo, the gnc215 is just spending money for moneys sake and the 650 you'd just be paying for vor func you already have and wont' use anyway. Only reason i ever use the VOR's is to practice an ILS approach. heck how about replacing the transponder with a gnx375 , which would keep all functionality, get you adsb-in/out and work really well with the dynon
  13. Just keep the king radio and cdi with vor/gs. No changes necc. or if you really want it integrated, swap the 355 for a 650xi, which will approx cost the same as a 355 + 215
  14. what is this pressure test
  15. just buy the plane you want now, save yourself the headache. mooney, esp c-j aren't esp more difficult to fly then a 172, arrow, archer whatever, plus you'll have all that time in the plane with a cfi right next to you.
  16. the value is really in the data and integrations they have, i could probably build you something really really close to foreflight for a few million. 100M budget would probably get you something seriously next level. 100Mill i think i'd be able to finish my Assisted reality Istrument panel
  17. I"ll have to check, my surefly also installed on the right is going on 400ish hours, no issues. i'd expect some issues to pop up on a new piece of kit.
  18. how's the EarthX working for you? My battery is going on 6 years old, getting about time to replace it.
  19. my step somehow fell off the plane 8). it was a fixed step
  20. I should get my yoke clock fixed, it's missing a knob and no longer ticks. Never actually plan on using it but, i like it for some reason.
  21. Does yoru 430/530 count ? My gns480 clock counted for the IR checkride
  22. I'm having it done by my IA, unfortuantely ran out of aviation funds this annual so waiting towards the end of the year
  23. apple, get cellular, only way to get the built in gps. you don't have to enable the cell service. I tend to use my mini as the cell connection makes it ultra convenient. My Air has a gps connection but the lack of cell plan means it really just stays in the bag.
  24. if they offered xm with a music sub at close to the car price, i'd be in but it's too expensive for this weekend warriors plane. I tend to avoid situations where i would need either for realtime weather
