  1. if specs are equal or greater, i'd go with it, sounds totally reasonable.
  2. my flap extension speed is higher than the gear, so i try to lead with flaps. to be honest, my only hard rule is really no config changes between faf and breakout/map and gumpfs 3x after breakout. prob a bit overkill on the gumpfs.
  3. Little Far but i can't stop recommending HorizonAviation @ KTYS
  4. prior to entering approach WIRES - Weather, Instruments, Radios, airport Environment, Speeds between IAF and FAF flaps to approach, plane prepared, frequencies, etc... CatMissed - Category and timing if necc, brief missed approach FAF Gear down, follow glideslope or dive to target altitude, do nothing else until we land or go missed.
  5. I say M20P
  6. wax her and put something in baggage, slide your seat back during cruise, you'll go 3 to 5kts faster
  7. it's right there in the picture 12.5 gph &)
  8. Here she is 7500 ft, 23/2300, running really rich and a more rearward cg the g5's are in kts. It's usually not worth burning the extra gas, using 3 hour legs, i'd lland like 5 mins sooner also, i'm noticing, i NEVER get a tailwind i
  9. 1974 E WITH Top Prop, i get between 140 to 145ktas 8000@ 23in/2300rpm. if i hvae something to give me a more rear-ward cg, she'll approach 150 this is LOP something like 8.9 gph
  10. I'll third this, i was almost immediately comfortable with the 355 coming from the 480 and Garmin Pilot.
  11. getting the credit requires i sign up for another year of jepp, which from what's been posted, isn't horrible
  12. so jepp just says navdata while garmin says : Including Garmin Navigation, Obstacles, SafeTaxi, and Terrain databases. is navdata all i need? yeah i can understand skipping safetaxi, you can actually see it on the unit but i already have a tablet i use . what about obstacle and terrain ?
  13. long story short, due to failure i now have a gnc355 instead of a gns480. what's the diff betwen garmin and jeppessen maps/navdata ? are they the same? does it matter? so i have about half a year with jeppessen left from the 480, which if i signup for the 355 i get money refunded. Garmin seems to have more stuff, for a few bucks more, but do i really need safetaxi on the nav unit ? someone knowledgeable please fill me in. ELI5
  14. man that's a REALLY hard choice, the expert or the experts, hmmm
  15. who's the msc
  16. so i just had my g5s and gnc355 put in, if you are going to pay for the hsi you might as well spend the extra to get the attitude indicator, Most of the work to install the g5 is in the magnetometer, gad 29b/d, canbus and gad13/temp. like seriously, your a&p could install the stand alone attitude indicator in a couple hours. as for the gi275, i chose to go g5 as i'll eventually upgrade to the g3x which was built for the g5 system
  17. will you fly it ifr? if not kln90b + garmin pilot / ff + roll steering = win heck you can probably still fly it ifr only missing lpv approaches I love my bird, but, spending $$$$$ for her to sit in a hangar 99% of the time is really starting to make me feel bad. that being said i made a call just this morning to get more avionics quotes
  18. yes, the 480 did holds, almost exactly like the 355 really. discountinuities ? you just needed to remove those from the flight plan or even ignore them it'd still cycle once you get within range of the leg spent some hangar time with the 355 today, learned how to set volume and change radio frequencies via the knobs, i'm all good now. its pretty simple
  19. we installed the gnc355A model, which includes the ability to use 8.33khz channel spacing for the comm. Eventually, i'm going to take her over the pond so the new channel spacing is required. Now just need long range tanks, autopilot and new paint. as to other differences, i think the only things notable might be, visual approaches, Radius to Fix and some vcalc functionality, none of which i've ever had a use for. might try out visuals, eventually. i'm thinking the 480 was just well ahead of it's time
  20. so after flying the new box, have to say i'm a bit underwhelmed. it has maybe 1 or 2 features over the 480, new 8.33 radio is nice however. next year's plan is to pull the kx170b and replace with a gnc215
  21. really wish it wasn't so damn expensive, planning on installing these in the next 2 years.
  22. Yes I should becareful, might make leo
  23. Man I’m pretty happy right now alex@horizonavionics was able to finish up birdy today, godwilling I’ll be flying in the am
  24. Was really simple to just follow garmin pilot. Actually the most annoyimg thing was flying with only a single comm
