  1. sexy ride, i so want a g3x and gfc 500, my list is way to long
  2. now that i think about it, I may be completely wrong but doesn't our alternate static work the same way ?
  3. I don't quite understand why someone would let an open door distract them to the point of crashing, atleast in a mooney. you can't really open it, you aren't gonna fall out, it's just noisy. you should do as you've been taught, fly the plane worry about the door later. if the door flies off and gets stuck in the elevator, aoa will be the last of your worries it's actually happened to me, so i do get it.
  4. just my opinion, but we cannot engineer out every mode of failure? Just ignore the aoa/disable as you did until you can sort the situation. well unless you want that aoa to cost 10x as much and 20x as much to install
  5. question, back in my ol hot rodding days, we'd want the oil in the 200 - 220 is range, why is it different for aircraft ?
  6. service life yes, but capabilities, not really. esp given how most ga use these products direct direct done heck even flying approaches and complext flight plans, they function substantially the same. to be honest, i'm experiencing buyers remorse right now, i replaced my gns480 with a gnc 355a, it's prettier but except for flight plan transfer from the ipad, does nothing the old unit couldn't do. actually the old unit had a few more features( ignoring vor ). also consider the units will only be ran for maybe a thousand hours over 10 years, you could probably get buy with used while watching the new stuff go obsolete
  7. ebay, facebook, beechtalk, you need eyes. personally i'd expect 4500-5500$ that prices is FAR FAR FAR under what it would take to replace with anything close to modern. just looked at ebay and bennet, they seem to be listed openly between 5000 and 8000, i'd list somewhere around 5000$ see what happens like seriously i could by 3 used for the price of an avidyne or 5 used for the price of an installed 650, just nuts
  8. please report on battery life
  9. I do the same, the ram clamp is clamped all the way at the top next to the headliner, out of the way and allowing full gripability of the bar 8)
  10. I"m really hoping to sand / co2 blast birdy, epoxy prime and paint, I don't want those chemicals anywhere near her.
  11. this is absolutely true, birdy would fly 5kts faster when washed and waxed. paints so bad now, wa
  12. Birdy is 2 to 3 kts faster with the cowl closure, i already had shiny new baffles so can only tell you she doesn't seem to get as hot. think she had the extra large version of the guppy mouth
  13. mount it to the center bar, above the compass, mine works great in that location.
  14. wow this is gonna suck, garmin or private equity, i'd expect db prices to double
  15. same for mine, not easy to open thte thing when you want, if it comes open after being properly latched, something probably took half the plane with it
  16. I latch the thing and check when getting in the plane, never had an issue.
  17. My girl also has strobes on the tips and tail. Also, i'm another that leaves the beacon on perm.
  18. yes, you can run either/or/both. I was planning to remove my beacon but ended up replacing it with with a redbaron. Aveo Redbaron XP Galactica LED Anticollision - Certified | Aircraft Spruce
  19. not really necc
  20. if i remember right, you can probably just buy a new one for the price of an overhaul
  21. if the planes are in equal condition, I'd buy the dynon plane. Buy the plane ready to fly not ready for the shop. Dynon and g3x are about a wash and now that dynon has an AP STC for the K, not much you'd be missing. My buddy has a dynon connected to a gtn650 and it is the snazziiest thing ever.
  22. doesn't sound to far out there, without the fuel pump and pitot heat, everything being led, i really could imagine my plane being under 8 amps, even while transmitting. think the fluke and i have a date at the hangar
  23. second this, it's just nice having a standalone device.
  24. pencil is pretty useless in the plane, so much faster and easier to write in a notebook. Now at home when flight planning or putzing it's KINDA useful. is nice to be able to work on e-forms with it. oh yeah, kids love using the pencil to draw.
