  1. I see no reason the fuel should be more expensive than 100ll, except for profit taking by whoever makes it. the fuel would be easier to blend, handle, transport and store, it would have uses other than aviation, ex. ( racing, auto, marine ) heck if you make enough of it could possibly ship it via pipelines.
  2. it's the mooney curse, i have to put my flaps down and buy a step stool so people avoid my flaps. heck i had to buy seat covers cause everyone wants to step on the seats when getting in and out
  3. I have an idea, i know some of you are uhmm deep pocketed connected folks, someone get the new administration to let us move our Ancient antique birds to an experimental status so we can maintain them without the FAA's interference. frick can't even make simple back springs, gears, other stuff due to their rules
  4. if the cost to switch to a diesel was the same as an overhaul that would probably work but unfortunately, it'll probably be priced so high it'll only make sense of rthings like brand new cirrus/mooneys etc..
  5. the writing has been on the wall for 50 years, they could've made the damn things use pump gas by now but here we are, still stuck at 0 waiting on miracles. 100ll will go away someday, no idea when but it'll go and we'll be standing here holding our fuel caps 8) remembering the days we could fly. honestly, considering the volume, i can't see how avgas isn't already considered anything but an annoyance to refiners/blenders/shippers
  6. so now i have the opposite problem i had before, if gami becomes unviable and we're left with just swift, what prevents them from gouging my eyes out?
  7. my poh says never use aviation fuel of a lower grade than 91/96, i'm guessing it can be made to run on 94ul.
  8. your ap/ia should be qualified to install, if they can install/time a mag they can install the surefly. most difficult part is running the power wire to the battery
  9. I'd take that bet, if it made any reasonable sense, they'd already be producing it. stuff is nasty, would take an act of trump to get a plant cleared
  10. Meigs field
  11. I can't seem to fault California, i'm gonna just guess it's been approx 40+, repeat 40+ years we've been transitioning away from leaded fuels, why shouldn't they say it's been long enough? be honest, the only people that care about aviation in california are kids and pilots, the rest want to replace your airports with strip malls and housing.
  12. man that's something of a scary ad. light top overhaul ? experimental? my understanding you can put an io-360-a1a on that airframe all you want, nothing experimental about it. maybe it's a guy just not wanting to put a lot of work into his posting
  13. It really is that simple, if you have a nice working 340 there are numerous new panels designed to fit the same tray and basic wiring. you literally unscrew it, pull it out the panel, slide new one in place, tighten screw. the newer panels may have features the old panel didn't have and will require additional wiring work. i will say bluetooth and usb are nice, i love being able to call clearance or the wife from the plane, you can also record audio using the bluetooth. usb port is perfect for my efb. You can also sell the 340, may make the replacement hurt less. I went with a pma8000g, awesome panel.
  14. from my experience in birdy, even with approach flaps, i'm down and stopped in less than 1500 feet. If the field is so short where it matters, i'm sure you'd use full flaps and every other resource
  15. hmm, if it evaporates as cleanly as normal gas, i really could use my wings stripped
  16. I tend to just use approach flaps for landings in general, seems easier to get the squeakers
  17. My E will climb fully loaded near max gross weight out of a Sea level airport at approx 700 fpm with flaps fully extended. Not sure the DA but it was pretty hot. Unfortunately, I failed to follow the checklist and left the flaps down, gained real world experience
  18. flying my birdy this weekend, i was going to have my ia see how to get my oil temps up to > 200. damn things were maybe 180 ish this weekend
  19. I was going to get the electro aire switch panel, but now think i just want simple locking toggles. look so much better and take up far less space. I believe somewhere the FAA is pretty much ok, with standard up to spec electrical parts. as for the 337, i wouldn't think it necc but if my IA doesn't charge me a fortune, maybe i'll have him submit it just for recording purposes
  20. sexy ride, i so want a g3x and gfc 500, my list is way to long
  21. now that i think about it, I may be completely wrong but doesn't our alternate static work the same way ?
  22. I don't quite understand why someone would let an open door distract them to the point of crashing, atleast in a mooney. you can't really open it, you aren't gonna fall out, it's just noisy. you should do as you've been taught, fly the plane worry about the door later. if the door flies off and gets stuck in the elevator, aoa will be the last of your worries it's actually happened to me, so i do get it.
  23. just my opinion, but we cannot engineer out every mode of failure? Just ignore the aoa/disable as you did until you can sort the situation. well unless you want that aoa to cost 10x as much and 20x as much to install
  24. question, back in my ol hot rodding days, we'd want the oil in the 200 - 220 is range, why is it different for aircraft ?
