  1. the advanced timing doesn't kick in till at altitude with reduced manifold pressures, won't impact starting at all.
  2. My surefly has always been set for advanced timing, never had issues. Don't remember hearing of any issues other than for turbo engines.
  3. glad you have all the money in the world. 12 to 18000 in labor for eqip that cost 10k hurts my wallet
  4. if you have gns 430/530 avidyne could be nice due to reduced labor cost but if you're starting from scratch, the most bang for the buck will be from g5s and gnc355 or gtn650xi. next would probably be gi275s, these are like g3x/g500 in mini form, really nice dynon and g3x would be next but even though the equip isn't that bad, Install cost gets ridiculous. do you already have an autopilot ? if not, then the gfc 500, trutrak and stec are about the only ap's available at the moment dynon is supposedly working on an ap but who knows when/if.
  5. garmin gi-275 or g5 with magnetometer, never worry about drift again
  6. really don't bother with detailed fuel planning any longer. for my 52 gallon mooney, i use ifr reserves 3hrs +- 30, might push it to 4 hours if it's severe clear. really, it's an hour out the first tank and by the time i run out of fuel in the second, im at the very least on approach
  7. My personal experience, had the same or really similar issue, spent a boatload of money replacing my main navigator and other things, but in the end it turned out to be the audio panel. I pulled it out, cleaned the contacts and reseated it, issue gone.
  8. I believe the engine mounts disengage causing the engine to depart the plane on first flight after 2000
  9. It really isn't, i still run it on my android phone, downloads actually work better
  10. Garmin Pilot on my samsung galaxy tab s8 was my favorite, the screen was head and shoulders above the ipad, it never overheated and came with an inbuilt gps by default, no cellular however. the software was a smidge behind the ipad version but it was really stuff i never bother using anyway. Unfortunately, it was stolen and the replacement was MORE expensive than the ipad, so now i run an ipad mini6 and an ipad air. also movies while flying looked better on the galaxy tab, i think it may have been brighter than the ipad at time.
  11. so probably not your issue but worth a try, mine was the audio panel, had to remove, clean and reseat it. I would get static and random times, across both radios ; would happen mostly when changing attitudes.
  12. this day and age, they'll take your plane and write you a check if you under insure, i'd just find a few on trade-a-plane and pick an avg price for your model
  13. ok, after about 110, there's a whole lot of cursing involved and i'd better be going on a trip, no putzing around at low altitudes when it's this hot
  14. I just fly earlier, higher or sweatier, no magic
  15. you can also run 25x23 27x23 whatever
  16. sorry for not being exact, it was just random page out of my poh
  17. yeah, i never run her above 75% power except for takeoff, esp lop that high. never bothered to really read the lop/red box thingy so just try to keep it simple. 23x23 per the poh is like 69%. you are free to run it at 2600, 2700 @whatever rpm or even
  18. just a thought, get a manual backup to the opening mechanism. My plane gets stuck in the hangar anytime we have a power outage.
  19. you know after 50 years of this being on the horizon, It's time. good for california
  20. I have the scimitar, the 2350-2550 restriction is hardly noticeable, normal cruise is 23/23 down low and it can't make > 24inches even with ram air above like 7k or 8k
  21. think id prefer an innogen , that thing looks huge
  22. depends on length of the runway, on a 2000ft runway, NOT MUCH AT ALL, my home 7000ft runway, shrug hurricane might be the limit I"ve landed her at a big class b with something like 8 kts tailwind, she still was down on less than 1000ft
  23. California Legislature Passes Leaded Avgas Ban - AVweb Shrug, just wish they'd let me convert her to using ethanol carrying gas and be done with it. so stupid this has taken 50 years
  24. Same here, except for my surefly, everything has battery backup, uses minimal power or gets shutoff in the event of alternator failure. quick napkin calc, 2 amp for transponder + 3 amp for gnc + 3 amps for g5 sys/audio panel/lighting, let's just say 10 amps in my normal config, that's 1.5 hours without any sort of load shedding. Due to a stupid idea of flying across that big pond, i was already planning on getting dedicated backups for the surefly, either enough reserve to power it to my fuel limits or a sep alternator to replace my vacuum pump.
  25. I tried using it for writing down clearances, atis and such but i find paper more convenient. while i do use it a bit for flight planning, its real purpose seems to be making me spend more money when it gets lost.
