  1. Noticed you’ve mentioned a couple times that this was a BFR flight with a CFII. In your position I’d probably try to avoid telling the insurance company/FAA unless you were already past the two year mark. No reason to drag the instructor through it if it isn’t necessary. Sorry about your luck, hopefully you’ll get it fixed quickly.
  2. I think the increase hit in March / April. Hitting those with lower times in the past 12m/90 days the most. Reports on BT, 70/75/80 age milestones will have increased insurance hurdles (price, training , dual required) because of limited underwriters willing to precipitate.
  3. The 175 should interface very well with the aspen. A 430 waas is probably a good choice too if you don’t have a good secondary nav/com. The interface between the stec/aspen/Garmin should work as advertised. However, putting in a stec now might not be the best option with less expensive options coming someday.
  4. We had the same issue with the alternator coupling. Please know that the rubber bits can plug up the oil suction screen and starve the pump of oil (necessitating new parts because of the scoring). 50 psi is a little low in our experience with the io-550. I feel for you, it was a very expensive process for us...I might end up swapping a new alternator and coupling every 1250 hrs to save myself 30k down the road.
  5. What was the reason for the overhaul? Did you have an oil starvation issue or making metal issue that might have contaminated the oil cooler?
  6. If you already own the aspen pro I’d install it. If not consider the E5. You should be able to source one for $5k including the ACU. In your shoes I’d probably find another $4k for a Garmin 175 or similar.
  7. New around here? IMO TT will beat them out of the gate. Dynon told me 3 years ago at OSH they would have the AP ready at the end of the year
  8. The 50 is basically a 30. The 55 is a big step up with glideslope capability and automatic trim. Where is the refurb upgrade info? Sounds like a good deal to me.
  9. I’ve been doing more night flights lately and as a bonus the sunsets have been really nice. Benefiting from shooting approaches every time (suggested a few months ago on MS) because of the dark surroundings...farm land on all sides.
  10. @Danb If on a i-device just edit the photo. When it re-saved the picture it will be oriented correctly.
  11. Supply and demand. Garmin dealers feel they can name their price right now. Dealer cost for a 2 servo gfc500 system for the Mooney is around $6k. The spread between that and the retail amount given to the buyer on the invoice allow for additional “hidden” profits.
  12. Might want to add a single g5 now in the AI location and hand fly it for another year(s) until you have funds in place. TT might have their AP certified by that time and hopefully it will be sub 9k installed.
  13. It looks like a nice plane and fast just sitting on the ground. I actually like the paint and it looks to be in good condition. Enjoy!
  14. I didn’t take the time to look but it might have utilized the gad43e that integrates the altitude pre select into the g500. It’s very likely considering the above average maintenance and upgrades that were installed. IMO this was a nice 252...
  15. This is a problem with the tight cowled ovation. Limited time running in the ground, lightly loaded (pilot and half tanks- allow climbing into cooler air faster), 140 kts climb, 29 ish gph, etc all help. However, in the end you’ll find the only way to solve the problem on hot days is to reduce the rpm to 2500-2550 after you clear ground hazards. It can be added back in at ~6k to increase climb rate. That is our SOP but I’m the odd man around here because I climb at 25 squared in my C as well.
  16. That would be my choice in 231/252 aircraft right now...they dropped the price 10k about a week ago.
  17. I agree with the above if everything is working, especially the AP. If I was listing mine right now, and I might be in 6 months, I’d probably ask 45-50ish.
  18. Less than 25 per hour?! There would have to be a metric ton of beer to go with that.
  19. It helps to team the AP instillation with a full panel makeover. Can’t really compare part of a quote with a stand alone install.
  20. I think we both need to sell our C’s and partner up on a 252 based out of Jackson...;)
  21. One thing nice about GP/FF is you will most likely have it with you everywhere you go. I now carry a “go bag” consisting of a Halo headset and a scout adsb. That along with my always attached iPhone (so the government can track my every move) I’m ready to go flying anytime. If I purchased a 760 it would be an additional unit to my iPad mini.
  22. I’ve been thinking about this upgrade as well. However, I was planning on only the 750 to upgrade. Wondering if the interface between the 750xi and 650 would cause issues, now or down the road?
  23. The TC 520 would not be my first choice in engines. I think you will be in for a rude awakening with the ownership costs for this type of plane. The C really is dirt cheap to run compared to other capable planes. I too have spent a lot of time looking at used 36’s (~3 years). However, after spending a few hours in the back of one trying every seating position, I don’t find them very comfortable. A pa46 is IMO a different class of comfort for the back 4 seats.
  24. I use a Bosch compact model with torque settings. Works great, absolutely perfect amount of torque every time. Bad mechanics are as common as bad pilots...don’t blame the tool.
  25. One thing beyond the additional 3k install is the maintenance needed down the road. Originally, when we ordered the gfc500 system, the thought was it would save money down the road on servo repairs etc. Now I’m not so sure. There have been a few servo failures on certified planes already and the system is relatively new. In addition I feel the servos are slightly underpowered to the point where the controls need to be well lubed...at all times. Time will tell if there is any savings at all to the new equipment.
