  1. You have the correct prop. All you need is a different governor and to adjust the fuel flows. A new tach is necessary if you are lacking a tso' jpi or ei guage. The $5k stc paperwork is available from mooney. I just had mine overhauled at 2500 hours...it was running like new. However, it was a convenient time, I fly a lot of IFR, and I'm planning on another 15+ years of ownership.
  2. People are trying to use it like a GoPro...no thanks. You need skill to properly shoot a super wide angle. It might be really neat to fly low with the 360 pointed directly down but that view would get old after awhile.
  3. Looks great! I was thinking to myself that a 650 would look great in that spot...
  4. Imo interest rates, record level markets, and cheap fuel are helping GA stabilize / grow in some areas. At the local racetrack the number of $100k cars has increased dramatically over the past year or so.
  5. The G5 is not legal for certified aircraft. I expect to see a G5c released within a year for around twice the price.
  6. Total BS. If the original estimate was $500-600 and they did not contact you at all before the additional work was done I'd make sure the shop owner and I had a long sit down meeting. I find it's a lot harder to be a frugal pilot when you pull up with a more expensive plane. Pick your battles and stand your ground.
  7. Is it just me or do others find it unusual to not toss in a $300 portable GPS when selling a 100k+ plane. Not picking on this plane...almost all used plane sales do not include it with the sale. I do like the hard mount the owner (or shop) made for the GPS, very clean.
  8. Ive seen a couple Eagle planes for sale in the 140-150 range over the past couple months. edit: searching now I cannot find any for sale...
  9. Nice to see this R go to a happy new owner. As it seems like I'm replacing everything but the roll cage during my overhaul it's nice to see some used value in these planes.
  10. From the map in your signature it looks like you are a flat land pilot. Would a m20s fit your mission? Same price, similar performance under 10k, and half the age.
  11. Wow, also had a desser tube purchased in 2014 fail in just over a year. Never a problem in the previous 12 years...
  12. I took a long time to fine tune the FF on the JPI. With this calculation and carefully filling the tanks after max usage in level flight I came up with ~102.5 gals of usable fuel in my 2001 stock 89 gal tanks.
  13. Many different models are being mentioned here. When people mention Avdyne they are referring to the ifd540 and ifd440. These units are relatively new and are IFR waas approach certified units. The 430 and 530 are the current standard with over 100k in use. The waas upgrade for these units updates some of the internal components, speeds up the refresh rate, and allows for a lot more options for IFR approaches.
  14. It gives you the stc paperwork to increase the rpm. Parts and labor are additional.
  15. Also had this happen at home base and got thinking how bad this would be landing on a out island during vacation. I now carry a spare tube on flights like that...
  16. Nice looking bird Dustin! A similar plane recently sold so things are moving. Good luck with your new Acclaim.
  17. If you are still looking for a plane spend an extra 15k and get one with an upgraded IFR GPS panel. Avionics upgrades are worth about half on the used market. - you could get the Aspen vfr panel and upgrade it later. - two GPS units for redundancy - for certified aircraft it take a certain budget to get anything done. If you're careful 15 will get you a couple upgrades but not a "updated" panel that you are looking for.
  18. Honestly if I purchased a plane with no upgrades (it would need to be dirt cheap) I'd probably just fly it like bought it. From the 80's it would have a decent nav/com etc.. If you want to add a IFR GPS I've seen a few gns 400's sell for 2.3-2.6 amu. I personally would not waste the money on a vfr GPS with all the portable options available.
  19. With a 2.5 amu difference between the 430w and 650 there is no way I'd spend the money to install the 430... Also with such a limited budget a single GPS/nav/com will be plenty.
  20. I've used a 2x6x16 for the past 20 years to paint lines on my parking lot. It works great with almost no clean up. Took me a total of 15 mins to put three lines down at the hanger and they are ready for some fresh paint after ~6 years but I let min go for 12 (very faded)
  21. I use a battery minder every time the aircraft is parked (alternating between batteries) and normally get 5-6 years of good performance. At that time I replace both batteries (gills). So are people getting twice the life out of the gel batteries? Wished odyssey made batteries for the newer Mooney aircraft...those things last forever!
  22. This link has a lot of good information IMO that could help you / your avionics installer. KFC 225
  23. I think you can tell from the "likes" on these two threads who is eligible and who is excluded. It's amusing to me the ones who change their tune as soon as they find out they are selected.
  24. I've been using AS 15/50 for the past 1200 hrs and my starter adapter lasted over 2k hrs so I don't feel it expedited the failure in my case.
  25. Also the think about the extra $20 million that will be wasted to implement this program. Government in action...total waste of money. The only good news is hopefully the install shops can demand a higher install rate because of the extra demand to keep aviation support thriving.
