  1. The video I made might only be interesting to someone wanting to hear radio chatter. I don't think it has much entertainment value. The production/entertainment is not there. It was mostly for practice. Watch steveo1kinevo, Flight Chops, or even Martin Pauly's videos. They keep me captivated, especially Steveo. I think it's they type of flying they do since I'm really trying to soak up info on IFR. Just watching a video flying over land isn't interesting to me but if it were spectacular views and you keep the clips short enough it would be really cool to watch. Swayne Martin does a good job of that.
  2. Thanks. That's what I want to do next, work in some charts and such. The camera I had facing forward fell and I remounted it but the view was rubbish. I would like to mount one outside too. Not a big fan of it in flight but TO/landing are cool.
  3. I've gotta say those guys like Steveo and Flight Chops do a lot of work to get their videos so polished. Here's a video I made of a trip to take some tests in OKC. Seemed like Wiley Post was having radio problems that day. I want to work on a couple things like a good beginning and end. Also try to change the screen that shows in the preview...for example, it shows me craning around to see the runway. I'm sure it's in the software. 'Had a lot of fun though! Tim
  4. That's going to be nice. I flew the first time at night last week. It was doable but not a fan in IMC. I'll start looking into this, I might have some questions for you sir. Tim
  5. Bob, I think Jolie has one of these on her E. She might be able to get some pics.
  6. That would be great. My email is my sign on name at g mail. Thanks, Tim
  7. I wanted to reproduce my POH if no one has done it yet. Mine is transferring print to the sleeves so I may laminate the new one. The page underneath is fine so I may copy it as is or retype it all...good way to say I've read all of it. LOL If no one has done this yet I will share anything I have to recreate. Tim
  8. I haven't had a problem on approaches. I usually slow just before FAF. However, I haven't been slam dunked by ATC yet. Mac, is that when you're having the problem?
  9. I've been an aircraft owner for less than a year but here's what my shop charged. Install GPS, new transponder, new Nav/Com 2, ads-b in box, at least 2 new antennae, new cable for GPS, all new wiring for the equipment he installed along with an updated fuse panel and avionics master switch, relocate instruments to standard 6- pack within existing panel, new PTT buttons, and a new cable on one of the Com antennae. Total price was $6k. Time was about a month (waiting on Garmin Nav/Com 2 to come in added some time).
  10. Don patched my tanks 8 years ago and they still leak. That's nothing on Don. My understanding is that once it starts developing leaks trying to patch it is temporary. I'm about to have them completely striped and resealed once I figure out if I want it so it local in Houston or Wilmar. So plan for about $8k ish for tank repair.
  11. Teejay, I would think it would last for more than 30. I think my thought process was that if it were done 15 years ago it could be fine or it could have been treated poorly and start leaking again. If it were just 5 years ago you stand a better chance of it being able to last another 25 years. Geoff, it's perfectly fine to use the basics, but that equipment is old. I personally don't trust it but if you guys do I understand. You probably have better experience with it than I have had. I've lost old equipment during flights and now I'm flying IMC...no thanks. It could be good or it may all be junk. Especially if it has just sat for several years. I guess in a lunch break quick post I don't explain myself well.
  12. If all the mechanical checks out with those mods I would say $45k-$50k. It's a really nice plane so thats why I shot a bit high. Make sure the fuel tanks have been completely stripped and re-sealed or bladders installed within the last 5 years. Otherwise you'll need to add about $8k once you buy it. Plan on it being out of service for a month. You're going to be around $25k-$30k for new avionics soon (GPS, NAV/COM 1 & 2, transponder, audio panel) and you will have to deal with the plane being down a month or more for that. Unless you just repair as things go out then you could get out for $10k. I don't see the OP so maybe I'll stop there. He might have moved on. Tim
  13. On the Avidyne the one thing I was having a problem with is getting to the page that allows the dat of the hold to be edited. I tried to explain it on the bottom of the page here
  14. So I'm getting the opinion that I shouldn't change it out, right? I like the idea of having an extra and rebuilding it so I can just swap it out and keep going. I can't have my plane down for long periods and it would be if I had to send the existing off for repair and wait for it. The reason I think it would be down is partly because I'm so busy that I don't have time to spend tracking things down. Also, what if I send it off and it's not repaired properly and I have to take it back out. Shady repairs and contractors have ruined my trust factor...that's why I want a back up idea if I stick with what I've got. Thanks for everyone's help. Tim
  15. So the reason to go to the Plane Power is more Amps? Are there other pros and cons. interav - easier to get parts, lighter plane power - more amps but is heavier and requires a rework of the cowl, more paperwork
  16. I have the non adjustable brand of alternator (Interav I think) and it's about 15 years old. Probably not a lot of use on it but I figured this might be a good time to upgrade to Plane Power. Can you guys tell me which one I should be looking for as far as Amps, adapters, regulators and such? Thanks Tim
  17. I'm not sure about getting an electric bike loaded but I've looked at the electric skate boards. Sometimes my distination or the car rental is only 2-3 miles away. These would work perfect for me.
  18. Wow. I've been out sick since I went to Denver and didn't know all of this was going on. I'll pm you my number. Tim
  19. I used 3/32" silicone from McMaster Carr that's rated to 400 degrees. http://www.mcmaster.com/#1460n13/=1452qw9 I used 70 hardness but I also ordered 60 which I might try as well. On the one I installed I have a hair width of light showing through on one side. When I disassemble to paint I'll slide it over a bit. When you take it apart I recommend drilling out the rivet head like you would usually do and remove the top plate. Then drill down to the next plate since the rivet probably expanded in the rubber section.
  20. I made progress but I don't think I'll get a sign off since I sanded a bit too much in one corner. I'll start over since I now have a good template. But that's fine, I wanted to paint it too. Rivets got better as I went. I ended up going with an outdoor grade 400 degree silicone rubber with a 70 hardness. Let the ribbing and laughing begin...
  21. Yes Clark, trade that Family Truckster in for a Mooney! If you can take another Mooney owner, or better yet if he's on the board, to look at prospective buys it may help to weed out the ones you shouldn't bother with. I recently picked up a '65 E for about the range you're looking for. I've seen a few good ones since then so they're out there. It took me a few months to decide what I wanted so like you I started this time of year and purchased in the spring. I'be seen some good ones in the classifieds here too. Tim
  22. I think I'm jonesing over it too much. I've departed Midland with over 5000' density alt in a 172RG that was in horrible shape engine wise with a worried pax because we weren't climbing but it wasn't that bad. I need to make sure I go over the performance charts. I'll get with some local CFI/Mooney Spacers to do some patterns to see their technique when I get there.
  23. I was taught Jeff's method. It will be for a possible trip to Fort Collins in a couple weeks. I will definitely leave early in the morning on the way back. I might get some instruction while I'm there.
  24. I'd like to hear different methods for setting mixture for high density altitude takeoff. Tim
  25. Nice to see another '65. My SN is 815...is that the original N number? I've had a bit of work to do on mine too. Some of it wasn't necessary but made me feel better. Good news on the tanks being leak free. Have you filled them up to see if it stains the carpet? She cleaned up well. It looks good. I especially like the 1 piece windshield. Tim
