  1. Took the part out tonight. I noticed it will take two different rivet sizes with the smaller ones installed first. Once the 3 screws were removed it just slids off the tab. This is looking from the bottom after filter is removed.
  2. I'll get video or pics or something. The rubber sheet will be on tomorrow so looks like I'll try to get it done this weekend.
  3. That's hilarious. So true.
  4. Did you manage to get a ride?
  5. I see just over 3/4" now so when it's fixed I should see over an inch. Not because I made it better in the open position but because it's worse in the closed position since it's all being diverted through the air filter; however, I won't be sucking in dirt. I have a black sponge type air filter with the sticky stuff on it (looks stock). What is that sticky stuff and how do you clean it in prep for a new coat? I saw a thread here last year about upgraded filters...any thoughts?
  6. That would be nice. I ordered some 1/16" A60 med-hard hardness heat and oil resistant Butyl rubber sheeting from Carr. It should hold up much better than what the factory used. I'll have to figure out a way to test the bypass spring. I'll post results.
  7. I may end up removing the cowl to access the mount for the ram air door. Wish me luck!
  8. I saw some sort of disk with a shaft and possibly a spring. I'll take a look at it too. I'm in the process of putting all of the logs in digital form so I can see what's been done and when.
  9. This thread is derailed but I'll take an IO over a O any day. My transition trainer was dreading when we shut it down for a stop at an FBO...he has a C but it started right up. But I was shown how to do it properly.
  10. I did look at the accordion looking part. It has some rough spots but doesn't look that old and no light is shining through it so no holes.
  11. The valve inside under the dash? I'll order some rubber tonight from McMaster Carr. Any idea on which one? Butyl rubber? LASAR will have the part in on Thursday and is around $165 but I'll see what I can do with my A&P
  12. Ok...ill be trying to track the induction leak that causes the backfire only when I'm at idle. First I need to get the ram air fixed to keep the dirt out. Looks like it has been falling apart for a while. Tim
  13. Changing throttle settings can be an induced backfire but this is just at idle. This weekend I'm going to work on the ram air gasket and check for leaks in the induction system.
  14. I just did a web search for the backfire issue. Seems like several others have had this issue too. I'll check the induction system really good and make sure all is good.
  15. It's a bang. I don't think it happens full rich, just when leaned.
  16. Ya unfiltered air is my main concern. I lean on taxi and have noticed my engine backfires occasionally if I'm waiting in line to depart. Is this an indication that something is wrong or just needs to be leaned a bit more?
  17. It is only frayed off the edges so I think it came off in pieces over the years. I wonder if I could cut out a new one with a laser engraver...hmmm.
  18. Exactly what I was wondering but I think this may have happened long before I got it. I'll look at the Lycoming manual and see if I can figure out where it could be held up. I'd prefer making one. I'll see what I can figure out. Thanks.
  19. I know I've seen this here on MS before but I can't find it. I looked at my ram air 'gasket' today and it's gone. So where can we get these? It's on the door Tim
  20. Check with Gulf Coast Avionics. I got the 440 GPS, 340 transponder, and ADS-B IN (MLB100 or Skytrack) for less than $15k. The 440 was about 11k of that. If you get a chance to demo both brands in other planes it would help make your decision. Tim
  21. Tank seal? It's a little bit last minute. Hopefully someone can give you a ride back that's instrument rated. Are you filing IFR?
  22. 65E no flaps rotate near bottom of white arc (I'll have to look at speeds...still trying to erase Cessna RG data from the noggin). Gear up 100-200 AGL (it was hard to break that usable runway bit but I know I can get them back down quick) My trim indicator is too difficult to see so my trim insdicator is looking out the window at the elevator.
  23. It's a common problem with the older planes so don't loose too much sleep over it. After that much time I think the sealant gets brittle. I purchased mine knowing it leaked and I would do a complete reseal when I got a chance because it appears repairs don't work if you just spot fix. It's like painting over a rust spot. I did notice the blue carpet the other day. Scared me pretty good because I thought it was corrosion. But then I found out it was fuel stains. Mine will be going in around spring. I just don't top off for now. The reseal is around $7000. Make sure they know what they're doing. Weep No More in Minnesota is the closest to you that I know about.
  24. Lol. I like bulletin 2 Anthony. I've done it in the Cessna during training and didn't realize it. It was never enforced to keep your feet off the top of the pedals until you're ready to break. Tim
  25. Does someone else near you have the same Garmin that would let you swap them out to see if it's the GPS unit?
