Very cool. Thanks for sharing.

How much was the 750 installed? You can pm if you'd like. Tim
-
I would say mis-perception because the Mooneys sure seem smaller. I think it may because the E has to have the center open whereas in the Cessnas have the seats really close.
-
T, I think you guys sold me on the GTN750, that thing is awesome. The AccuTrak would be nice too especially when you are going into a Class B to land and after take off from another airport outside the area you get the dreaded, '7741M, advise when you're ready to copy' request just after departure...ugh, STARs! I'm new to IFR but there's times I wish I had autopilot such as setting up an ILS approach when you requested RNAV and such. Where did you guys get that throttle control. I'm a little concerned with grabbing the prop control and start turning it only to realize it's the mixture control because it's backwards from what I'm use to. Because of the way we adjust the prop, I don't think we'd get too far twisting the mixture before we realize the RPMs aren't changing, or maybe we would make the engine cough a bit if we are LOP. It would be embarrassing to pull up somewhere and instead of shutting your engine down you're cycling the prop...ask me how I know, LOL. Ron, the pre 6 pack is the whole reason for the upgrade. I hate messing up a vintage cockpit but I feel it is inadequate for what I feel is safe IFR. I like the styling of your dash too...looks good. I can see some J model influences. Hank, YES, I never could figure out why some Cessnas have the vacuum gauge on the right. In a narrow Mooney it's not too bad but on a Cessna they might as well put it in the mirror on the wing. Dave, what is that square screen on the right? If it's a AI that would be perfect to use till I get the equipment upgraded to what I want. Brian, thanks for the pics. I have an E I'm looking at but I like what you've done to yours with the pics you sent. I'd like to hear more when you get a chance. PM sent. Storm scope. What is it, how good does it work, and how much do you rely on it now that we have stuff like XM weather and such? Thanks to everyone, Tim

I may take you up on that. Thanks for the engine quotes.
-
Thanks Bob. I really like your panel. I was thinking that engine monitor is a good way to get rid of the gauges all over the place. My wife was concerned with an electrical failure, which I experienced last week, and I told her the other ones would go out too. I assume.
-
Thanks -a-. That looks straight forward. I could design one based on the equipment I want too since they have that option. Tim

Those look much better. I really like the engine monitor with all the engine gauges on one screen. I want a new xponder too. It has a G430 so what should I look for to be ADS-B compliant?
-
Does anyone have a link to panel mods or can they share a picture of how they modified their panel. I'm curious about an E model I'm looking at. The gauge locations drive me nuts. It has a non WAAS 430 that can be upgraded and the steam gauges seem fairly new but I'd like to upgrade the airspeed indicator, engine gauges, and relocate the VORS. Probably upgrade the NAV/Com radio for the second VOR (maybe an additional G430 or G530?). Thanks, Tim
-
Thanks Brian. I might have this worked out. I'll keep y'all posted. I'm going to look at threads on modified E panels or start a new post on that topic. Tim

Thanks for all the advice and knowledge. This is awesome. A few have asked about the budget. If the company buys it I will set it at $150 but he is difficult to get a commitment from. I'll be willing to spend $50 if I purchase it on my own. So it's still up on the air. A couple of the J models need overhauls. I know this is a shotgun question since the price range is broad but how much are we looking at. You can give me a shotgun figure too. Are there companies that specialize in financing for aircraft? Thanks again for all the support. Tim

Hank...'wounded duck'. That couldn't describe it any better. The first time in a 210 and the gear retracted I wondered if they were ok. Your 6 seconds refers to manual gear?
-
Thanks Shadrach, I'll fly the E soon. The only must is upgrading the 430 and a new gauge layout.
-
I'll see what I can find out. I don't want to get into anything considered commercial or charter so I shouldn't have mentioned commercial since its just for knowledge and possibly insurance. Either way I'll run it by a lawyer. Thanks
-
It shouldn't be too long before I'm finished with the Commercial license but for use as transportation now, I believe it is allowed now since my job does not depend on it. What I'm saying is that I will not get paid for flying. It's just a way for the company to save some money.

The owner of the company doesn't mind the 100k-200k range. But his concern is resale which doesn't concern me for a few different reasons. To get a plane to meet the mission goals I am willing to purchase it for the $50k range but not much more since it would impact some investments I'm working on. However its very possible I could talk the owner into a J. Especially when he sees the bill for the rental next week. Lol The design department seems to shut down at my office when I'm not there so the fact I can get to a job site and back quickly is a huge asset. It increases my value to offset the difference in buying my a $80k company vehicle and being gone from the office. So it's confusing because it could go two different ways so hopefully this sheds some light on the situation. I need to gather info for my 'presentation'.

That Lasar link renewed my hope Not to offend, but the E looks a bit dated but the mods will clean it up. But then again it's a couple years older than me so...
-
I'd love to see it. I learned to fly at Monarch in '92. Thought my flying days were over till this year. I work in Wylie, train at Meacham so I'm in the area every day. (Or at least passing through).
-
If I can get a nice E for $45 it would be more than half what I was looking at an RV7 for. But I'm not opposed to going the RV route if it was built by the right person.
-
I'd like the turbo because I've had some issues in the RG at 3000' airports in the summer. Plus going to Denver with the wife would be nice.
-
FIKI would be great. But not TOO many icing SIGMETs. 40k-50k would be what I am personally willing to invest. The owner said price isn't an issue but wants to wait till a distressed deal comes along to make sure he can get what he paid if we needed to sell or upgrade. At an E model price I can do it myself. Mods not being available is sad. I'm a very good composites guy but time is very limited (time is truly wasted on the youth) but it would be nice to mold an existing cowl. Maybe even make it out of carbon fiber. The E is 500 SMOH ...not sure it's a 2000 TBO or not. How would I tell? Always hangared, beautiful paint, new gear 'pucks', clean interior. Other than its dated, it looks newish. Tim

New to the site so quick intro. PP in 93, last flight '97 (yep, an adult for sure). Fast forward - I need to travel for work around Texas and surrounding states so work paid for IFR which I should complete the flight portion next month due to a weather discontinuance. I have about 160 hours and about 25 in complex. I was looking at RV10's but $200k is a bit much to get into. I'm currently looking at some E models and J models. I know by the time I modified the E I would be at the price of the J but I could also work on it as I go and pay it off before I started the mods. I'm looking for a bit advice on what to look for. Autopilot would be nice but what's some pros and cons. I definitely want a Garmin 430 or better WAAS. The alternator in the 172RG went out while out in the countryside working on night landings for commercial so back up electrical would be nice if Mooneys have such a thing. I don't want to experience that again any time soon. I'll be flying an E soon to get a feel for it. E models I'm looking at are around '65 and the Js are around '89. I'm looking at one J now but I'm not sure the owner would be in a position to let me fly it. I'll talk to Jerry from MAPA and see if I can get some transition training, that might help. Anything else I should look at with these two models? I've got to fly from Dallas to Thibodaux next week, sure wish it was in a Mooney instead of the 172RG..ha! Thanks, Tim

Done. This site is great.
