  1. Better yet is the steering wheel replacement in my Mooney. I used one from an old DeSoto. Not sure what the horn button does. ( I’m kidding.)
  2. I went to a one room country school. That always explains a lot.
  3. I love the way my iPad spells absence.
  4. I’ll regret this, but after a long absents, a typical airport cookout event is starting to take shape for Sunday afternoon, July 4. If you were looking for a destination, I’m sure there will be plenty of food and geezers. Briskets and ribs from the smoker, who knows what else. It would be fun to see a few Mooneys as well. No big deal, but maybe some of you Ohio folks need an outing.
  5. Thanks all. Now all I have to do is garner an invitation to my nephew’s recently acquired mansion . . .
  6. There is one sump in each wing. So two bladders per sump in the 4 bag system. I am pleased with mine but I am never useful load challenged.
  7. MMU or CDX or . . .? Family visit. You New Jerseyites probably have a preference.
  8. Dealers choice, I suppose. I guess a quality reseal would be desirable but the time delay factor seems to be significant. The good shops are booked well in advance. I did a patch job on mine that showed more seeping after a couple years. So I opted for bladders, 54 gal version in my “C”, which I managed to install in a couple of weeks. Not sure what the bladder Installer’s schedule would be. It’s nice to not smell fuel in the hangar and find as much gas in the tanks when I fly next as there was when I flew last.
  9. No mb receiver??!! Is there no respect for tradition? Next they will do away with the true fade and fade 90 LF range orientations. I think I’ll go pull the whistle-stop tuning knob on my Super homer for old time sake.
  10. We trained quite a few folks in the fixed gear, fixed prop M20D. I suppose those items could be kept out of the mix for early stages of training. Or not.
  11. Same as MooneyMitch. Older KT-75. Working fine. The wingtip gives me some second thought regarding possible vulnerable to hangar rash damage, but so far so good.
  12. It is interesting that this mod uses an STC. Understandable, I suppose. But in the restoration of my Stinson I find that the Cleveland brake conversion gets the calipers installed forward, aft or even up depending on the brake without extra paperwork. I guess that’s how it goes with a 75 year old airplane. As long as someone signs it off.
  13. I’m not sure what his status is, but Howard Fenton, Fenton Oil Analysis 918-492-5844 always has been a goto person for such. I believe he previously owned or had a lot to do with Blackstone.
  14. Seems like the takeoff is the hard part with the backpack (Wiley Coyote) kind. I’ve watched my Dr. friend have some ugly spills (harmlessly) and had one newbie crash into my hangar door on a failed attempt. But if I had the knees . . .
  15. Maybe I have one more RAGBRAI in me.
  16. I knew it was real. Thanks for explaining. I just hope it finds Sasquatch.
  17. Mine went on the shelf in the tail of my C, but it was not until I ran the ground from the strobe directly to the battery that I eliminated the problem of which you speak.
  18. Ingenuity. Gravity a bit over 1/3 that of Earth. Density altitude of Martian atmosphere equivalent to 100,000 feet. Really?
  19. 14mm plugs were torqued to 20 in/lbs. Of course I meant ft/lbs. I quit posting at odd hours of the night
  20. As an old Franklin guy (which have 14mm plugs and are famous for having a helicoil back out), I know enough to suggest there is the proper tool for the job. Staking was mentioned already and I believe is the key to a successful installation with the right tool. Then caution must be used not to over torque the spark plug. I’m thinking the little 14mm plugs were torqued to 20 in/lbs. In other words, don’t over tighten.
  21. 3 bladders each wing 54 gallon C.
  22. All you kids get off my lawn.
  23. Already replaced downlock, but have never known of up lock issues. I would be interested in one to have on hand
  24. I did gliding in the 90’s. Tried to make it soaring, but that’s a different story. LOL. Probably put more time in Pawnee tow plane. I always wished for magic glasses that would give a glimpse of exactly what a thermal looked like.
  25. My C310 was an F model and somehow was fitted with electrically deiced two blade McCaully props. When I inquired about 3 blade props for it, McCauly was intrigued that an F model had electric props and proposed using it for certification purposes for that conversion in exchange for a pair of the props for $10k. So I left it with them for a month or two (while I was checking out in the B744) in the winter of 1998(?). I don’t think they ever flew it, but just did a fit test. It was a great deal for me until a couple years later the nose gear linkage failed on extension and I needed to land without it. On touchdown, I feathered both props and they both stopped 2 down and 1 up. When we eventually ended up on the nose(they roll a long time before it comes down) the down blades, of course, were in ground contact but amazingly 1 blade on each prop was still salvageable. The short blades went onto one prop, the long ones on the other. Of course, had they been 2 bladed, I might have gotten away unscathed. Anyway, to the original question, yes loaning my plane to McCauly worked fine.
