  1. Good advice, I’m sure. At my activity level throwing another $50 transponder at the problem is attractive. I suppose there is some market for my skybeacon adsb.
  2. Dilemma is to find a 76 or if unable convert to a 76A or C. That involves more installation time than one would expect, but make future replacements a bit easier as both are interchangeable. Or just bite a bigger bullet and go with something new. My 1980-ish navcom stack doesn’t demand better. Spent a few decades flying behind glass and I don’t mind the nostalgic trip down memory lane when I fly my old stuff.
  3. Transponder check today. Failed. Looking for a simple fix. KT76 TSO. Not KT76A or C. Could use A or C, but they aren’t a slide-in and would require installation. Seem to be a lot on eBay, but prefer one that works. Let me know if you have a good one to sell. To make life even more interesting, on the way back a whining in the headset (it wasn’t me) made me monitor the alternator output. It was low and directly followed engine rpm. Plane Power. Unless I find a loose connection, I’m assuming a diode problem. As I recall, you don’t fix the Plane Power but replace. Am I right? Wonder what the third thing will be.
  4. My 310 had an IO-470D with Cermichrome cylinders. One at a time, they got replaced. They let you know. It’s less financial stress than all at once and you always have something to do in your spare time. The last cylinder had a broken ring and made serious metal. The engine went to IRAN. But I miss that plane . . .
  5. I’ve had/have both. Not sure what constructive remarks to make. The Bonanza is probably the greater maintenance/expense challenge. It gives the illusion of spaciousness, probably mostly by the ease of entry/egress. Reliable but arcane electric prop, pressure carb and manual fuel pump on the early models. But I am quite at peace with my M20. Economical, a bit less complex.
  6. Just looked at Foreflight again. Those circles are spreading like monkey pox.
  7. So some dude with a drone trying to stay legal? Or model airplane club. I’ll try to do a drive by.
  8. They seem to have a long effective time. I know of nothing going on in the one near me. Hmmm
  9. I probably just woke up, but suddenly I notice lots of grey circles on the map, seeming to be permanent flight areas for UAS (drones, I presume) below 75’ agl. I know of nothing unusual going on in the ones near me. Now what?
  10. You would think with all the English Majors in the world a more descriptive nomenclature could have been derived.
  11. So my mystery oil leak emanated from the sump gasket. An ooze that did not manifest itself in a discernible manner. Someone had pulled the accessory case at some point and the part that interfaced with the pump had a seal that didn’t reseal. As long as I’ve owned the plane oil has dripped while it sat (static). When it suddenly got worse I had to find it, requiring ultimately pulling the engine. Also, I assumed pulling the engine meant it was time to send the 2300 hr engine off to the spa. What I learned is that sump leaks are tricky (if possible)to detect. Had I known, I don’t know if replacing the gasket would have been feasible without pulling the engine. Maybe. I also learned, to my surprise, that at least 3 overhaulers worked to convince me to not have it overhauled. Fix the leak and return to service. So that’s what I did. And I learned (or confirmed) that engine r&r is every bit as unpleasant as expected. And so it goes.
  12. My June order with spruce was for back order to july28. That didn’t happen. Now August. Not holding my breath. Any thoughts on the “permanent “ filters.
  13. I’m told there aren’t any at OSH.
  14. My wingtip option has been successful. Always worry about hangar rash, but I could probably mash a tail beacon as well.
  15. Legacy airplanes are the best! Enjoy.
  16. Not my first rodeo by several decades, but experience doesn’t always compensate for time and age. Besides, I like to whine.
  17. Yep, that’s me all over again. Did I mention re hanging engine also sucks? AI and I spent most of 2 hrs just getting hose to fuel pump re connected. Building ship in a bottle stuff.
  18. Great airplane, underrated in market value. With GAMI’s 11 gph in my F model. Great for OSH camp packing. Unless it was muddy.
  19. FWIW mine are exactly like yours. Must be a reason.
  20. Hefty has a nice line of bags.(I’m no longer welcome at better hotels. OSH is fine.)
  21. Hold my beer. I’ll show you.
  22. Properly configured progressive lenses are no brainers. Might take a tweak to get the panel in the sweet spot, but worth it. Years ago I tried some bifocal type lenses with an overhead segment to accommodate the overhead panel of whatever big iron I was flying at the time. Unfortunately at the time they could only be made in glass. Too heavy. I probably should dig them out for maintenance tasks over my head when my neck won’t bend far enough.
  23. As long as they keep funding my pension.
  24. Father’s Day. #1 son soon to be a Delta captain . Hmmmm.
