  1. don't need a mooney specialist if you're already qualified (like for the IR). also, because I have so much time in my plane, when I didn't have a medical and needed to fly with an instructor, my insurance agent told me the instructor didn't need to meet the open pilot requirement because *I* was still insured and at the controls. For the one instructor who wanted to be named on my policy, they issued an "Approved Flight Instructor Amendment": "The flight instructor(s) named below must maintain a valid Certified Flight Instructor’s certificate (including the appropriate ratings) and valid medical certificate (if applicable) as required by the Federal Aviation Administration or its foreign equivalent."
  2. +1 for yaw damper on a long body in turbulence. need to turn it off before changing phase of flight, set the rudder trim, then turn YD back on
  3. AGPS is only used to bootstrap the location when first turned on. I does not improve location "availability" or "accuracy". you may be thinking of "skyhook" which uses the known location of WiFi networks to improve positioning
  4. Random Internet site. now don’t remember where
  5. my 510 works flawlessly
  6. IO540 ~445 IO360 ~260
  7. I have learned to turn the yaw damper off before changing phase of flight, that way, the motors are not fighting against each other, and you won’t forget to set the rudder trim, because the yaw damper is compensating
  8. After having my panel redone, my BEW went from 2392.74 to 2312, a net gain of 70.74 UL, or almost 12 gallons of fuel. The CG went from 44.22" to 44.83, which is negligible. New W&B: BEW 2312 UL: 1056 leaving 522#s of pax + cargo with full fuel fuel
  9. If we’re suggesting improvements to threads, I would love to see an option to never see a thread again.
  10. Why don’t you just bookmark them in your browser?
  11. yes I expect adults to be kind to each other, and have a low tolerance for boorish behavior, and I expect a non-moderated community to call out bad behavior rather than allowing it to pass or piling on. things like making other people the butt end of a joke, lecturing people on how what they're doing is wrong or they "should get some training" (and I don't mean in a constructive way)
  12. The question is not whether it makes me feel bad, which it doesn’t, but rather the overall tone that it sets for the community. Mean-spirited jokes debase the speaker, and the community. We could do better, but it’s pretty obvious people a lot of people enjoy it this way (“I love this thread. Keeps MS lively” in the climate change discussion) The rest of us consider it a Faustian bargain
  13. but its not really a joke. its a dig disguised as a joke Two southern bells are sitting on a porch having tea. Lady 1: Did you see the ring my Henry gave me? extends hand Lady 2: My, that's nice. Lady 1: And did you see the new car my Henry dear bought for my birthday? Lady 2: My, that's nice. Lady 1: Oh, and my Henry says he's taking me on a European vacation! Lady 2: My, that's nice. Lady 1: So what has your hubby done for you lately? Lady 2: My hubby? Well my hubby paid for me to have etiquette lessons so I can say "My, that's nice," instead of "Fuck you."
  14. there's a recent good example of piling on where a cute but ungenerous joke was made at the expense of a particular political group, and it received more likes than anything I've ever seen on here. I won't honor it by linking
  15. if you've never heard of it, there's something called "lake effect," which is when you are over water and finally out of gliding distance, you will start to notice every unusual noise and every engine indicator will start to vibrate
  16. the photo cuts through the middle of your sentence! *NOT* polarity sensitive
  17. Spotted today at Sky Acres. Lovely paint!
  18. And if you have to land in the open water, land into the wind at 11 o'clock or 1 o'clock position in front of a boat. Motor is preferred but sailors are better at man overboard maneuvers also attach a scuba diver's dye marker to your vest. they will make you super easy to see even from a distance.
  19. Wave = free energy if you know how to use it
  20. It’s not a matter of who decides. It’s a matter of each person speaking up when they observe behavior they find unacceptable. Or would you just let someone shit on the sidewalk in front of your house without saying something? Or not want your neighbor to say something if they saw it?
  21. Or technological determinism? I picked Malthus because he’s the idiom
  22. Yep! We’re on FB now. DM me and I’ll hook you up
