  1. "pricing" is not just the total invoice cost. Add distance/fuel, cost for car for dropoff/pickup, return trips for squawks, downtime, inability to get someone on the phone to answer simple questions like 'should i be worried about X'?
  2. C&W has a full-time receptionist who answers the phone. Her name is Beth. Are you sure you dialed the right number?
  3. if by "reading too much into a post", you mean "reading what you write and taking it seriously," then you're right. I should know better
  4. +1 for missing the point of the post. people are already going around here saying "fuck you" just using different words. but let me translate most of the posts for you "fuck the libs. stop censoring us. stop telling us what kind of fuel we can put in our planes or where we can land or how much we can pollute. stop trying to regulate us. I want my freedom" and "fuck the right wing nut jobs. they're trying to destroy the planet, and soon we will have no fuel to fly or places to land because everywhere will be a shopping mall. people with hidden medical conditions will abuse the rules to fly unsafy. people will be using bailing wire and duct tape to fix their planes, and they will fall apart in the sky. and because they block user fees, we will have less and less air traffic control causing more mid-air collisions" the reason we don't debate these things openly is because it NEVER CHANGES ANYBODY'S MIND, especially on an mostly anonymous internet board. All it does is let the authors "speak their minds" to lash out (indirectly) at people who they think are their enemies, and the people who agree get to pump their fists in the air, while the targets of these arguments do anything from ignoring the comments to attempting to debate them to saying more unkind things. This is what we call Free Speech Voltaire said: I disapprove of what you say, but I will defend to the death your right to say it. and you do have the right and I would defend it. but actions have consequences, and the consequence on a mooney board is that it causes division in a group that has a shared common interest: Mooneys. so if a moderator comes in an deletes the climate change post, people will yell "I was censored for my views!" no, you were censored for being OFF TOPIC. or someone else will say "there were so many interesting and useful comments, we are well deleting them???" because they were perpetuating an off topic discussion that brought out more divisiveness Am I really the only one who's tired of it?
  5. so in your mind the difference between "provocative" and "not provocative" is the naming of names? news flash: not naming names doesn't mean we don't know who you're referring to, make it any less provocative or divisive, or give you plausible deniability saying for dick things. its still offensive.
  6. it has been said that dragging a wing through the clouds in a glider is a rite of passage. so is flying right up to the base of a CU
  7. GLIDERS! an excellent way to build skills that carry directly into power planes 14 CFR 61.83(b) To be eligible for a student pilot certificate, an applicant must: (b) Be at least 14 years of age for the operation of a glider or balloon https://www.hcnews.com/news/14-year-old-completes-first-solo-glider-flight-glider-club-works-to-instill-aviation-passion/article_d4ae02aa-171a-11ed-9f6b-9346b31fac89.html
  8. I did this on a practice RNAV approach two weeks ago. I hit the TOGA button, and after I had cleaned up I pressed ALT and HDG, but I had forgotten to set the ALT and HDG bugs to the missed approach instructions that had been read to me. Luckily it was a practice approach with a safety pilot, because it didn't turn out well.
  9. with training and a proper approach, its very doable, except in high DA
  10. I took a FOAF who was a UA747 check airman on a fight in 54X about 15 years ago. He flew from the right seat and I was his navigator and flight engineer. He nailed every airspeed heading and altitude like the plane was on rails, which was quite impressive for a first-timer, so I decided to take him to the former Castle Air Force Base with its 12,000x250 runway to see if he could land it. He flew the approach perfectly, until he decided to level off at 50', when I said, OK my airplane, and flew down to 1'. After the flight he told me he expected the wheels to come up through the wings.
  11. I went with a GPS/VLOC/COM GTN750xi and a GPS/COM GNC355 if I had to do it all over again, I would have spent a little extra money and gotten the GTN650 instead of the GNC355 because of the tighter integration with the 750, not for the second VLOC. I have used the VOR receiver exactly zero times in the last year. I take that back -- I flew a VOR practice approach when I first got the panel, but I have never used it for actual navigation. I requested KABE VOR-A practice approach last week just for grins, but approach told me it was "no longer available," even though it had it it foreflight. It is however missing from airnav. Instead I flew the RNAV with a DA of 200', which was pretty *yawn*.
  12. in air "refueling" for gliders! fo course the tow vehicle has to be in a descent
  13. why write "some would disagree" and "some political agendas" and "those who supposedly hate politics/philosophy" instead of just saying who those people are what political agendas you might be referring to? if people don't like it, they can just skip over what you write?
  14. excellent news!
  15. I'm instrument rated, but I have never gotten anything like this. Just a void time.
  16. Garmins have pitot pressure input, which other do not. its primary for IAS mode, but who knows how it is used in other modes
  17. you don't have to be "cleared as filed" -- you can be issued a different clearance when you call clearance delivery, and you can be issued an amended clearance en route. but your clearance is your clearance, and that's what you're expected to fly (WX and terrain notwithstanding). if you miss a radio call / frequency change, its NOT an automatic violation of 91.13. your clearance takes you through a TFR, you fly through it, you get a number to call, you ask them to check the tapes. someone wrote "you're the final authority", which is true. but being the final authority does't make you are the sole person responsible.
  18. What specific challenges does not having "mooney time" present in instrument instruction (as opposed to primary or transition instruction)? the bigger challenge for an instrument instructor is finding one that is competent with your TAA. A CFII with 1000 hours instructing in moonies with steam gauges is not the instructor you want if you have a glass panel.
  19. this is not correct. you can LOG PIC as sole manipulator of the controls as an instrument stuent, but you cannot act PIC in IMC, unless you have an instrument rating for that category (Instrument Airplane)
  20. My A&P spent 12 shop hours going over every recommendation made by Garmin to flush out any airfare issues. I offered up my plane, but they wouldn't take it because its not a J/K
  21. The whole point of the "R" in an IFR clearance is to provide a route to the clearance limit in case of lost comms. if there's a TFR active en route that the pilots not supposed to go through, he should have been routed around it earlier
  22. the remote TXP and Audio Panel for the 750 are great. much better to use the stack space for the 507 Mode Controller (for the GFC500)
  23. Since its "insurance" and not "FAA", you would have to ask the insurance company. Perhaps *experience* over *certifications*. maybe @Parker_Woodruff knows
  24. Mine still oscillates in IAS mode, but only if I touch the thumbwheel. If I set it to climb with VS, then switch to IAS, it will hold the airspeed. If I adjust the hold IAS, it will oscillate. Garmin knows about this, and they are waiting for a J/K to bring to Olathe to test. I don't know what else to do but wait people are still reporting it https://www.facebook.com/groups/833963897818892/posts/926741995207748/
  25. used to be you could get a Bad Elf GPS with a lightening connector. don't think they sell them anymore, in favor of their BT versions I still have a bad elf GPS with the old 30-pin connector. bought a lightening adapter, and it works fine on my iPhone 14. maybe you can find one on Ebay?
