Mooney Round The World Flight Project Amelia Earhart 1937 2017
peevee replied to BCrystal's topic in General Mooney Talk
I like the machinery of them. Most seem to use eta movements these days, some budget watches like the tissots use eta. I stopped buying automatics for a couple reasons, I don't wear my watch on the weekend and without a winder box they sometimes quit by monday morning. Second I like a Chrono and the auto Chrono watches tent to be really thick. I have been lusting for a steinhart pilot Chrono though. For now I'm wearing a cheap Hamilton quartz Chrono. Have for 3 or so years. Two batteries.- 439 replies

94 Mooney M20M: TKS, GTN750. This Week Only
peevee replied to WorldWiseTrade's topic in Aircraft Classifieds
If I could talk my partners into it a d sell our rocket I'd jump. Worth it just for tks. That engine could run a long time. -
Are we seriously arguing over paint?

Selling block time. Anyone done it? Experiences?
peevee replied to khedrei's topic in General Mooney Talk
I guess it also depends on your goals. Why are you doing this? Is it to help a friend out ? then you might break even at 120 and that's ok. Is it to get the plane flying regularly? Then same story, if you break even and the plane doesn't sit it's a win/win. Are you trying to help offset your fixed costs? If that's the case you're probably costing yourself more at 120 than offsetting. We easily ran 120/hr operating costs on our 231. Maybe yours is less of a mx hog. I think most of us owners are more emotionally invested. If it was pure business then we'd leaseback and let the plane pay for itself and get beat to death. -
That might not work, the 8th I have to fly to Iowa to pick up some puppies, then work the 9th and 10th. Maybe the 11th.
-
Gws is an interesting airport.. not sure I can swing a trip in there but I can shoot for maybe Wednesday I think the 5th depending in what's going on. I haven't had the rocket into gws just our last 231. I have to go to Iowa that Saturday to get some dogs.

Ours was named insured on the policy. Cost us like 400 a year iirc. Another reason 120 isn't enough. -
Tough to do when the plane is rolling backwards downhill and you're holding the towbar. The easy solution would be just set the parking brakes a tiny bit to keep it from getting away from me but it didn't work. It's fine. Found a way. There was a tractor in the only level spot. Plane isn't going anywhere. Wanted to park on the north end because of the hotel proximity. Next time I'll walk. Getting out might be an issue. 100 degrees inland, and as you say lower and thicker fog.

If you're in co for a visit we can go up in the rocket. If you said so, I missed it. How much weight are we talking here? Space shouldn't be an issue but weight will be. I find the Mooney perfect for two and bags and a cooler in the back seat. We're loaded to the gills weight and space wise but I'm also carrying 600lbs of fuel

We did on our last 231 to a previous partner. I wouldn't really do it again. I think 120 dry is too cheap. The 231 is much more expensive than a 172 to maintain and operate. I wouldn't consider less than about 180/hr -
This was good advice that I forgot and also learned the hard way. I'm diagonal across a spot with a wing tied to the tail rope and the other wing to a wing rope. It's somewhat level that way. Guess our parking brake isn't very good.

Agreed. I should have made Merced nonstop though... Stupid wind. Still have stops in kmfr and Heber City Utah u46 or u34 I can't remember. 2 nights each. Keep following! Shelter cove is really cool. If you make it this way it's worth a stop but maybe too short for the lancair at 3500. Pucker factor high on a rocket with not great brakes still carrying a lot of fuel and close to gross with ocean at the end Oh, the inn has a free pilot can you can use too.

Yeah slam dunk. Big rocks there and I was already doing about 1200fpm down and there was traffic doing air work at the airport he said I should get under so I had to hustle. I should have canceled and started down sooner. Oh well. The Mia is the Mia, it's not the controllers fault. Wind has sucked all week. Started that day at 240 and gradually stepped down to find less headwind.

Played with power settings because I was a lot lower than I normally fly. And I was bored. Riddle me this. Nearly the same performance and within a few kts true with these two power settings 31" lop 2300rpm about 175 tas at 12k on 13.8 gph tit I think 1630ish Or 26" rop 2300rpm about 175 tas again and same fuel flow. Tit 1550 which I figure is 150 degrees rop. Literally almost the same exact figures. For a supposed .2 gami spread our egts were awfully crappy. Very similar fuel but very different amounts of air, no? Makes no sense to me.

Made it, lovely flight from MCE at 120. Beautiful spot... I don't think the guy at zoa center had ever seen anyone go in here off an IFR flight plan before. There's another Mooney here. Looks like a f model. Anyone here? Parked, long story. All the spots slope backwards on the north end and without someone to sit and hold the brakes while I chock the wheels I had to sort of improvise. Overflight to check the winds and look for golf carts Downwind.

NOSTALGIA---IS IT LOVE OR STUPIDITY?

I need fuel bladders ??? Help !!!!
peevee replied to flyhigh603's topic in Avionics / Parts Classifieds
Thread drift but how does it plumb in? Tee in to the fuel line behind the seat or..? -
Mine all but refuses to fly. It's kind of to the point that I should probably hang up flying because it's just not worth the expense to keep current for one or two real, actual uses a year. We have a trip planned in August and that might be the end of it. It's that or find an upgrade, but that's expensive.

Eh, what's another 20 knots.

Found the elevator electric trim problem!!
peevee replied to Yooper Rocketman's topic in Modern Mooney Discussion
You would think they would want the billable hours. I'm not sure our guy marks up parts much. Hours should be much more profitable. Maybe not. Maybe it's better to bill an hour on 5 small projects than 3 or 4 hours fixing something like that. It's not like our guy is getting rich off us, shops always full but I don't think it's very profitable. -
Found the elevator electric trim problem!!
peevee replied to Yooper Rocketman's topic in Modern Mooney Discussion
It's really frustrating to read the stories around here of people's a&p actually taking components apart and fixing them. I need one of those a&ps and I can't find one. Every shop I've tried throws parts at the problem until it goes away. -
How would you get the bike up there? That door is like 4 feet in the air. Wheelie?
-
Xanax man... Xanax. Also, guys been trying to sell a m22 with a spare parts engine for years. Do eeeeeet Still convinced a p337 with boots is the hidden gem on the market. What's better than one t360 running lean of peak? TWO t360s running lop!

Mooney Round The World Flight Project Amelia Earhart 1937 2017
peevee replied to BCrystal's topic in General Mooney Talk
Why? It's a neat trip and something I wish I could do but is he first for anything? A local traffic girl took time off to fly around the world. In a pc12 probably donated, with handling by jeppesen, probably donated, and a second professional pilot...- 439 replies
