  1. The one thing I am kind of not liking is when the visors flip up they point straight back since they are running into the headliner. Trying to keep it simple. The other route to take is make the visors articulated on an arm and use the block to mount the arm to. When I get it figured out I can make some up if people are interested.
  2. The final mounting block will be out of aluminum. Best I can tell depending on mood of the FAA for cameras (There is an AC) and GPS as long as no tools are used to mount it, it should be OK. The alum block will be clamped on with Stainless thumb screws. If the inspector insists, undo the screws and take it off.
  3. First mockup fitting of the center mount. The rods are too long which makes sense. Also I am wondering if they need to swing out. The camera mount will not work as designed. Need to go with a piece of angle alum. The adel clamps work although a bit industrial. These are some old ones off the injector lines.
  4. We all hope we can do as good as you did when given the same situation. Well done sir.
  5. With all the gizmos in the panel it is interesting that we like the $100.00 pads better. :-) I see that your strip that covers the alum for the warning lights has come off. I was thinking of redoing the glare shield in leather. Can't decide if I want to make a new one out of alum or recover the plastic one. The winds were 90 deg 10 gusting to 16 runway is at 160. With half flaps in. I have landed in stronger cross winds that gave me that little "oh no" feeling inside and the plane handled them like a champ. This was more gustier I think and that is why the tail was trying to come around. It was one of those annoying things like "oh got it all set up" bam now you are not. did that twice. "fine I will just put a wing down and show you"
  6. One wheel landings. Not just for C172 anymore. Some wacky winds just seem to lead to keeping the upwind wing down. Not as pretty as it could be. Plane kept weather vaning so one wheel it was.
  7. Clean all terminals to shiny bright status. Service battery. Check master relay. What model plane? What kind of starter? It could be that the starter is over drawing on amps... but not likely...
  8. From memory I would think it is #25 chain. http://www.mcmaster.com/#roller-chain/=11hiu5h Bike chains don't "stretch" they wear on the roller pins and then the go no guage will fit into the excess slack that has been created by wear. I would doubt that rolling the trim wheel up and down would create enough wear to show.

  10. I have done a couple of high speed runs down the runway as a way to test. They have a better known outcome.
  11. Flaps all the way down? Not that I would know about forgetting the flaps all the way down, they climb pretty poorly with the flaps all the way down. So does a C172 not that I would know about that either. Maybe the flap indicator has slipped a wire and not indicating properly
  12. I think we are moving to truck tires here. Hence the cage for airing them up. A very special skill to sledge them back together. Using feet can work, but I don't like to look that silly with all the Yetti fur jumping up and down and the bead breaker works like a charm
  13. I was wondering if they would let you land on one of these parked carriers and other than all the stuff on the deck they are only 1000 feet long. Hmmmm
  14. As much as I like tools.... The CB usually wins out with HF Tire Changer at $50.00 or less with the 20% off coupon. And works when I have to wrestle an ATV tire onto a rim. http://www.harborfreight.com/manual-tire-changer-69686.html
  15. I saw the price of new rims so very carefully plywood on the bottom then just used a manual bead breaker to work it off without scratching the rim. Leverage is good thing.
  16. What is the saying "The wheel bearings on a plane are the most over greased over maintained item in aviation"
  17. Your seats may have the headrest tubes. They would not be hard to add. Aluminum tubes that a stainless U goes into. I chose to leave mine off when I redid my seats.
  18. From another thread. Servo Test. 6. The fuel servo is not related to this issue but i asked about his thoughts since it was 1985 since being replaced. The way to test it is to run the engine up and get it warm, do mag checks, then to idle down to 900 or so RPM, turn on the boost pump. If the pressure from the boost pump pressure changes the mixture then the servo needs to be looked at.
  19. Most of the "road alligators" ie the long pieces of tread off tires that are lying along the road are recaps off big trucks. I would happier with single molded price point tire than a reconstituted recap tire with around the same price. Not sure what makes a more expensive tire more special other than marketing feel good stuff. I would think tires are going to have cracks in between the treads after a year or so.

  21. I kind of talked the IA into it. Told him I would do all the dirty work. Since he did not know me from Adam we kind of had to build the trust. Luckily I showed up with my own mandrels to rebuild the flex brake line (thanks dad) It was 5 days and I was very sore after it. In addition to the brake line, the added thing was replacing the front seal on the engine. He made me pull the prop and then properly safety wire it going back on. I showed up with a pre filled in 100 hour inspection and then on day 4 he sent me home with the AD list to do the homework on. About 5 hours of homework and then another 2 hours going through it with him.
  22. She has a slight but noticeable right turn tendency in cruise--so, I just need my A&P to mess with that. IF you have the Brittan PC system there is a roll control on the Turn Cordinator
  23. I think the comment on the AirHawks was they have thinner sidewalls so they sit a little fatter.
  24. beer cans hold fuel better :-)
