  1. Just depends on how much you work you want to do yourself. I redid my F including sewing the new seat covers and all leather panels including full leather baggage compartment. I am going to say I spent about $750.00 for the whole interior. $161.00 on carpet and $350 on leather hides. All new stainless screws and other stuff. $70.00 for a sewing machine.
  2. Kind of. Since the center mount is kind of turning into the "Center mount universal mounting block" I would be easy to put a 10-32 threaded hole that would accept Don's visors. Like the rods I made Don's may be a too long with the difference being one goes in the frame of the window and the factory/Don's go outside the frame of the window. My first design flaw was the thought of center swinging the visors. There is no real need. The second flaw was since they are inside the frame the only way to swing is up and that creates a visor straight back as it hits on the frame. Cessna flap situation.... Next thought is flexible shaft mounted to the center block. I will go with the camera mount first since that is what I need.
  3. If I had taken the motorcycle to the airport it would have been ideallic
  4. Always fun to be up there. The return home with the sun on the way down behind me was magical. We have had 3 days of gusty winds with about 20 degree off the runway . I think this is the first time to fly 3 days in a row. Tonight was a cheap gas run. still $2.95 Friday was the most smooth. Saturday and Sunday pretty bumpy. First time my head being close to the top of the cabin became an issue. As icing on the cake when the plane was all put away the and the sun was setting hopped in the car and Danger Zone was on the radio, so had to make some fast passes on the taxiway. It's on video, but too cliche to post.
  5. I think we decided that the other mod (JPI) would do good, the Laser Mod not so much.
  6. I found that hitting the old paint with a buffer and some wax will really help shine things up. I also found that Rustoleum Gloss white went well with the original paint. To the point that I have to point out sections to people after they cleaned the bugs off the leading edge. Spray some into the cap then qtip for a brush or brush for a brush. The PPG Auto paint store could not match the parts number from the Parts manual. One day thinking about repainting the green stripes with Rustoleum Merlot. Some pieces have already gone Merlot, like the step and one of the landing gear brake hose shields.
  7. So just leave the bump in the vinyl caused by the rivets or cut out around it?
  8. Lunch landing winds 020 15G21 Arriving on runway 34 Return home Winds 360 14G20 Arriving on runway 34 High school spring breaker "What did you do on spring break?" "Preflighted and flew a plane" bit of an upset stomach but she handled it like a trooper.
  9. Maybe kind of. The previous mechanic has installed the alternator with the mounting bolts loose enough to be visibly miss aligned and the baffle on it rubbing on the sheet alum. The B&C starter install requires a alternator stabilizing arm to be fabbed out of mild steel. Even the Prestolite has the stablizing arm. The B&C is just shorter by a tad. So the two accessories are more related than the log book entry would suggest.
  10. Run up, fast passes down the runway, climb over the airport, come back to check everything once over with flashlight into the cowl. All good things to do. That is after going over all your work twice and having some quality study time.
  11. With the cargo door. Throw the motocycle in the back and some Jet A in the tanks and go.
  12. I think it is interesting that Foreflglight just now records flights. Different platform on Android, Been using DroidEFB for 4 years including my primary training. It will record flights, you can mark your own Points of Interest on the fly or the ground. Then you upload them to a google share. Then they come down into google Earth or any other mapping program. It now has an automatic log book that will record your time spent going from airport to airport and auto identifies the airports. I have tried Avare and FltPlan go, but the User Interface is not as good and Flt Plan Go struggles with map display even on my new Samsung 6 phone.
  13. Interestingly mine was 5 hours instructor, 5 hours solo. about 130 total time no complex, no retract. time Flew the plane back with instructor (Mooney Owner) Worked on the plane with Instructor (A&P also) He did a couple laps around the pattern him left seat then me left seat. (got to feel the fun of a Mooney) pulled the prop for an overhaul. Replaced the prop. Then did 5 landing with him, some airwork. Quick run through of the PTS. 2 solo laps around the pattern. I looked him in the eye and asked him "Am I safe?" He said "Yes work on being airline smooth and land on the centerline" I had been landing a foot to the right (tiny bit of left crosswind) to which he would respond "70V now arriving on one six right" and I would shoot him a glance and grumble They really are marvelous birds and the speed makes it not puttering around the sky like with a C172
  14. So the next owner gets the plane and it keeps burning though alternator belts(You have to remove the prop to replace). Checks the log for any work done to the alternator and finds none. He sees the starter replacement but that is on the other side from the alternator.
  15. So as we approach 1 year of certified mooney ownership and maintenance. One of the things about documenting stuff is so the FAA and others know the plane is still airworthy from a MX standpoint. So let's say you put a new starter on a mooney lycoming. To get to the 2 back side bolts about the only way is to drop the cowl and remove the alternator. The log entry only says replaced starter and did W&B and 337. No mention if everything else got put back together correctly. Given that the bolts were loose on the alternator and the cotter keys were not done properly, I would say the starter got back on more correctly than the last person did. discuss
  16. Depends on the MX manual.... 205 does. Also remember there is a SB on some of the S&W oil coolers so there may be an update there. They are shown in the drawing, but don't appear on the parts list....
  17. did the baggage compartment.... Needle nose pliers to hold the speed nuts. and Awl to make the holes. scissor to cut the corners just right. And a fair amount of handyman shade tree mechanic know how to guess where the hole will be and pre punch it. A third hand may have also helped on the corners
  18. Not that my plane is right, but it has the long bolts with a long piece of sheet alum with rivanuts in the plate. It is kind of a pain to get everything lined up on install so I could see where others might take a short (get it short bolts) cut and not use the spacer tubes. The spacer tubes look like standard AN hardware. Given that you are mounting a flat thing to a rounded shape there would be lots of chance tor deformation and cracking. Add some vibration for good measure. Might want to have a conversation with the installer
  19. Playing around with Mrs. Yetti's vinyl printer I made some old school Mooney birds out of car wrap vinyl. It seems to be holding up OK. The problem with bigger pieces is what to do with the rivet heads. I was going to redo the disco green stripes with vinyl. It was not working out on the wings. I was thinking about doing a large mooney bird across the top cowl much like the old school firebird
  20. Unless you have a power file to post and some pictures it never happened. How is the bike? RSDOIPAGBITG
  21. Grandfather said "A real craftsman makes his own tools" His last name was Smith. We had to sell all the blacksmith tools and such. Just not enough time to learn and use.
  22. I have likened piloting to golf. I don't play golf. Everyone is trying for that great landing, just like they are trying for that great put or great tee shot. Then everyone sits around the clubhouse and comments on the landings of the day and talks about other people's game. Carry on!
  23. You could probably find the connector at the wing root and isolate each circuit. then check for shorts. If it is not on the wings or tail, it is probably in the panel area. any recent work areas are primary suspects
  24. Sounds like a short. With master off. Pull all the bulbs. Put your VOM on Ohms. Put the ground lead to ground. then check all the center conductors if one or all show ohms you have a short. Depending how it is wired they could all show short or one shows short. Start pulling inspection panels after you check under the panel
  25. At gross from the F manual. YMMV
