  1. Way more people die on the ski slopes than you hear about in the news. It's not good for business. 2-3 a year in the Vail area per year. One of my rules is no piston single in the colorado rockies
  2. #mooneylivesmatter is mobilizing to shut down airways. Protests in the sky till justice is obtained.
  3. Like a Wookie could fit into a Prius. Sheesh
  4. oH This could turn into a when men were men and knew what those green spaces between the lines meant really fast. Adding digital complexity seems to generate a lot of questions on the forum Seems like lots of $8.00 thermocouplers fail then you have to buy them for $30.00 and pay the mechanic $100.00 to replace them. There are lots of wiring harnesses to junk up an otherwise clean but small engine compartment Sometimes the install gives you more problems to what may only need a simple solution Three year payback of $3AMU with 100 flight hours a year add 3 gallons of AV gas lost per flight hour
  5. Got to take dad up for some boring holes in the sky. Let him have the controls (he has a PPL from way back but has not flown since the 60s) interesting to see others with the plane.
  6. And darn if the thumb screws were too short. Looks like the rest of the mount will work well. Could probably slim it down some.
  7. There was an RV builder and his granddaughter taken out by thinking Silicone was good around 100LL
  8. You might try removing the wing inspection panels that are under the wings, about mid tank, in front of the tank and take a look. It can leak there in front of the tank and then travel towards the cockpit.
  9. The IA made me do the ADs and SBs then reviewed it, so I had been through those. Half of them don't apply since mine is an 75. The database would be by serial number so all the chaff would not need to be worried about
  10. The trick to getting them in (after wrestling with them for about 10 minutes) is straight down. Not leaning back. It helps to reach over so your armpit can press down against the spring. Put a flashlight in the baggage compartment. Line up the pin and the hole and push down while holding the pin. don't forget to put the seat belts on first.
  11. Getting them out is easy. There is a pin on the outboard side reachable from the baggage compartment side. Pull it and they pop out. Getting them back in is the hard part.
  12. UMB V0.73 Universal Mounting block with test camera mount Don't get excited about the screws... the thumb screws are with the plane
  13. Which is nice, it would have been nicer to have a Database that you could put your model and serial number in and ONLY the applicable SB and ADs pop up. I know there are services and the FAA site, but there is still a bunch of specific knowledge of the plane that is needed to get it right. The service my IA uses and the FAA site were slightly different in which ones popped up. It's still not helpful when there are three different oil gears within a 6 month period and you have a "replaced oil gears" At the end of the day certified installations and PMA parts break sometimes at the wrong time
  14. Floating ground or battery that has turned one of it's cells can cause all those problems. Floating grounds can be cause by ground straps that don't really ground. I would buy a bucket of ground straps and redo all the ones that are current and then do a couple extra. Like to the starter, alternator, then frame to engine. Then battery to frame. With the grounds not working as designed then grounds are sought through other paths that are not designed to handle the load. I have a story about a radio antenna in a lightening prone zone and concrete.
  15. 6" 9" and 240. Most of it is in legs. In that other thread where they were talking about being able to reach the baggage door to check... no problem. If I tried I could probably snag something off the hat rack. 39" sleeve shirts are hard to find.
  16. For reference the teenager next to me is sitting on a boat cushion. On the way to pick up the plane the transition instructor said " you know you bought a Mooney" On the way back he looked over at me and said "Looks like you fit"
  17. I make cheap gas runs to Taylor I used to go to GTU but I found out that Taylor is closer and still cross country :-) Probably won't happen this weekend but maybe the next.
  18. The inspection of "looking for a linear crack" would say bad batch. There seems to be the same issue with the oil pump gear. Supposedly their were three different versions of three different material in a short period around the late 80s
  19. Is this not the whole reason for certified airplanes and PMA so you can trace the "bad" batch of springs. That would keep us all from having to guess. If they are a wear (does not sound like it reading the SB) issues then it should be a PM type item added to the Maint manual/100 hour/annual inspection. As regard to springs in general these debates can go on a long time with respect to gun magazines (should you keep them loaded or not). I have an original 1911 (not A) that the magazine spring is just fine. When I got it the magazine had been loaded for probably 40 years.
  20. It's only green for a month or so the rest of the time it is brown... or on fire
  21. If you look closely at a McMaster Carr catalog there is the correct part number Cuttler Hammer solenoid for a bit cheaper
  22. Talking to one of the airport managers in Houston, a fair amount of people are having to sell their planes and continue to lower the price....
  23. Both. If I add two camera mounts one on each side, then it could hold a forward and rear facing camera. My head takes up most of the upper space of the cockpit.... not saying that I have a big head. It tried a Joby camera mount large and small, but the center support is just not that big
  24. What? you are not even going to give us armatures a chance to figure it out for you?
