  1. It seems like wind tunnel testing. Would be the way to answer lots of my questions. It was interesting to learn how much the Wright Brothers built wind tunnels and test rigs. Should the inlets be inboard or farther out? Is there just way more airflow than the engine needs to stay cool? Seems like to optimize it and not use a wind tunnel whoever mentioned a Ardiuno with some thermocouplers recording lots of temperatures and airflow in 4 places would be best. Yarn pieces taped all over the cowl and running the engine would be a fun video for showing ground ops cooling.
  2. They make some really small adel clamps that go around the fuel injector lines. Properly tension they should work. Pics would be helpful
  3. Fix it, Fly it, repeat. I would suggest having $10AMU in reserve to fix things on top of the purchase price. If you pay 226.00 for an oil change you will need more per year. Mine cost $50.00 and two hours of time
  4. It is good to have real experts come on here and provide expert advice

  6. Google fu It has the ARI cowl mod
  7. My thoughts. You need an upper piece and a lower piece. The upper J cowl is fiberglass and has issue with heat and delamination. The F is all metal with trussing. There is a nice big rounded surface in the guppy mouth to mount the pieces to. There is a big fan right in front of the holes. But the holes seem to be a the root of the blades so does air move from the propeller blades or the forward motion of the plane. My 75 F made nov/dec of 74 has a long air gap in front of the firewall. Non adjustable cowl flap?

oh and black seats in Texas is always a bad idea. y'all must no be from around here

    Whoa!!!

The nice thing about one door is the pilot gets a chance to orient yourself before you try to get out with some level of grace. My hanger neighbor said "reminds me of a clown car every time I see you get out of that thing" A pilot door I guess would allow you to waller around on the wing and then roll off.
  10. I had saved this link. http://www.brownaircraft.com/product_p/gl-30-hd.htm But I guess thinner?
  11. And you would say that intercepting GA aircraft with military assets F-18 does not violate posse comitatas
  12. Or next time since the mechanic was in San Antonio you should drag Davy Crockett or something else Texas Revolution into the story so you can get banninated from the state.
  13. Figured there should be one. This will hasten the pursuit of my leather glare shield project :-)
  14. It's pretty much dimensions and checking with micrometer at this point. Your engine shop should let you know. Ask lots of questions cause you know we will :-) Oh and get a cart to put all the pieces on. Baggies and clean rags or blue rolls of "shop towels" Being on the floor attracts dirt in all sorts of places. Card board paper box tops make nice no scratch tool trays.
  15. As much as certified tracking and paperwork and stuff and serial numbers. You would think there is a good database for stuff like this. Based on stories on MS it seems like the 1990s were the bad lycoming metallurgy years
  16. I tried to get a match using the paint codes. They could not do it. Even my wife can't see the Rustoleum Gloss White with White Primer underneath unless they are pointed out. A bit of compounding and a bit of wax. There were several pretty good sections of about 4"x12" that needed to be done. Only reason you can see one of the redos is the bad masking job. More compounding should fix that. One day the disco green stripes may go the way of Rustoleum Gloss Merlot. The leading edge of the nose cowl may get stripped and polished, then there is no worry about paint chips from the prop.
  17. check the specs on valve guides and other things to determine way to proceed. If you buy all new cylinders, you can send the old ones out for overhaul and have spares for next time. There will be a next time.
  18. Could that be a hub to shot peen? on my prop they shot peened the hub. It was interesting because with all the oil field stuff in Houston they still had to send it out to another vendor to another town to get it done. shot peening the blades would make them not so smooth.
  19. It is spring loaded mechanical affair. The P lead would need to come unscrewed and fall out for the shorting bar to engage. You check the tightness when the hood is up right?
  20. Yes they are watching. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/El_Paso_Intelligence_Center
  21. 235 miles is too far 50 miles is missing the "vital element"
  22. One of my bendix (the left one with the retard) did not sure of the model. did not take a picture of them for the records... Something to remember to do.
  23. I suggest you are asking for a reseal. Be sure to check with the shop before you drop off. Some will only do overhauls based on time or age.
  24. Were they Customs and Border? Had you been anywhere within 250 miles of the border? If so the CBP is within their jurisdiction to ask questions. Google maps says Las Cruses is 34 miles from the border. The CBP kind of has a right to inspect. https://help.cbp.gov/app/answers/detail/a_id/176/~/cbp-search-authority
