  1. Insights G1 is a good solution. G2 is a better silution. G1 is fine if you have another means for fuel flow. The G2 includes FF, but that portion is not plug and play. Run the 100hrs off mags, or pull them when you have some free time or the WX is bad. RLB accessories in Addison IL does great work and quick turn around. Best, -Matt
  2. Also, if flown hard you will get a blade rock. It's allowable up to 2°. The paint with MT has always been an issue. It can get pretty ratty at the tips if you let it go on. One nice thing is no need to grease them. I like the idea of the wood blades VS metal blades for vibration and cycles. MT has always put out more thrust than hartzells, but some variations may be slower. I love the new semitar blades they have, hopefully this blade is more efficient and can provide the same thrust. I have flown 2 blades super D's and Huskys. Liked them both! I'd take one just to get the weight off the nose. It would probably fly really nice on my E! -Matt
  3. Man! Timing is everything. I had a RV4 Fuselage kit, tail kit, finishing kit, but no wing kit. At the time no wings or kits could be had. Ended up selling the project as parts due to a bad paperwork trail with prior owners. I think the -4 and -6 were the best on so many levals. After the -6 the pricing got expensive. It would still be fun to do a Vans project that one day! -Matt
  4. Hi David!! Any thoughts about using the stock (non 201) spinner? I have thought about getting a 337 done to have the top of the doghouse brought fowdard to enclose the area behind the spinner. This would clean up the rough air, and you could even keep most of the cowl, encorporate the lower cowl closure if you wanted etc. Similar to a late 70's 182 or somthing like that. Nice work, stay warm! -Matt
  5. I have the same one. Docs are sparse, and it is Hard to move the wheel due to the reduction gear drive in the motor. However, inflight it works great! I'd be interested in a spare motor and gear set should mine fail. -Matt
  6. I made my own for the baggage door. On the jets they use a rubber cored nylon covered rope then covered in leather. I grabbed some 3/8in cord and some leather scrap from a local aircraft interior shop. Looks nice. Used my wife's sewingmachine. I had to figure out the foot as she never used the side foot. -Matt

    Tires

Michelin airstop tubes and whatever you can afford. Just Make sure the ply rating matches what's on the TCDS. Some guys have had nose gear tire issues with interfearance on the gear doors. I like the GY FCIII but they are expensive. A "J"is still not heavy enough to worry about tire ware. -Matt
  8. Was this one of the demo airplanes that Geno and Charlie flew for Roy those years in formation? Looks great! Good luck! Charlie's wife said recently they had a great time doing the demos for Roy! -Matt
  9. Known hours? Slop? -Matt
  10. Do you use Foreflight? I would put a nicely worded email together and have them work on it. They will respond quickly. I have seen Ideas fixed or added in their software updates. Good bunch of people. However, I would contribute all I could on each airport experience... I always feel bad for the loan Tri-pacer that gets stuck at Atlantic at Santa Monica. Almost like he didn't get the memo to park elsewhere.. -Matt
  11. I still love flight watch. It's a real person, real time that looks at weather all day long! I don't know how many times I have looked at a 496 XM screen and it says "Waiting for Data." It's great for long XC, or mutiple legs where you don't have a chance to see a radar picture. I'll me bummed when it goes away. -Matt
  12. I was impressed recently with the $150 one at harbor freight. I had to look at something on a B55. Flexible boom but probably unable to see the valves. For the valves I have a simple one from Hawkeye that has a 90° mirror on it. It's a little pricy and won't record a photo, but provides a clear reflection. The optics in most mirrors are off unless the mirror is of higher quality. A few years ago, I had access to an Elmo pencil cam. I'd attach it to a fiber rod and could see anything I wanted. I like all of the simpler solutions others have made. -Matt
  13. I would try a few and experiment with it. I'm not sold on the entire air filter thing. I've worked on and flown several airplanes with no filtratition. The Pitts I worked on had no filter on it and it made it to TBO. I would be more worried about a piece of the ram air door coming apart, than ingesting any amount of dirt or other fod. Not exactly the same thing but Jet engines swallow a lot more air, dirt, birds, etc. no filters there. However, if you work off of grass, dirt, sand, gravel, I'd take a filter if I could have one. -Matt
  14. I think the MTBF is 50 years! Glad to see they are available again. That was not the case 2-3 years ago. Good leg work -Matt
  15. I paid $525 for mine a few years ago! I'd grab one from lasar!! The gear warning switch is rigged to the cockpit portion vs the engine portion unlike most aircraft. McFairline may be able to replace it if you ship the old one to them. Good Company that understands what owners are after... -Matt
  16. Man that would be a sweet looking set up!! I always thought the 3 bladed MAC's looked small on the bravo. I bet it's substantially more than that. I know they wanted 32k for their Kevlar 3 blade a few years ago. They are funny with their pricing. -Matt
  17. Hi GSXR! Mooniac58 is the admin. His name is Craig. It won't be widely accepted, but is there a way to have a small fee added for each new member? Say a dollar etc... This way it might be one extra step to provide security on the site. Or some Blurred words during login. I road a 97 GSXR 750 for a bit! My buddy had it jetted and had a lot of race components on it. Last of the carbed engines I believe. Awesome machine! A bit scary actually. Cheers, -Matt
  18. If The leak is only in one spot, Joey could do a good job of isolating it, and sealing it up. If it's leaking from multiple exit points, it will be harder to guess where it's coming from. I'd dive into it and see if a little PRC will get you by. I've stripped and sealed two tanks leaks with scrapers, scotchbrite, patients, and a little blood/scratches. I don't think the tanks ever leaked after. If you get to the metal, it will seal. It may last a long time. What was the condition of the other tank? If it's really just the one, then fix what needs help. I'm sure Joey all let you scrape sealant! Lol. -Matt
  19. I did a physical re-weigh on mine. It's actually easier than doing all the math, guessing on arms, weighing components. I use the small sheer nuts on sheer applications, thin washers, correct screws lengths, chord lace instead of zipties, etc. Our 2013 overhaul pulled over 26lbs out of the airplane, 9lbs in wiring alone... 916lb useful now. I believe our last paint job in '91 was a scratch and paint. So there could be some weight under the paint. It all adds up. I'd like to know the actual weight than to have 20years of guessing... -Matt
  20. And guess which one still flies!!!
  21. I worked with Paul Williams, above companies founder, about 10-12 years ago on a Mooney skin no less. We match drilled an entire wing skin together. Learned a lot that day. Highly reccommend their services. -Matt
  22. Check Barnstormers, over New Years I connected with a guy in CA. I grabbed some nose gear doors, aileron and rudder. He still had the elevators. It was a 66E. Should be the same. -Matt
  23. Greg Koontz is Awesome as well! Great southen charm. He makes his Super D dance!! Way harder than making a Pitts Dance! -Matt
  24. Welcome! Turbo Seneca? Turbo toga? A B36TC would be sweet! Sounds like anything less than a 414 would be suitable. The late model 340's were great too. Might be a good compromise, you'd be burning a bit less with the 340. I just got back from airlining to Chicago with the family ( 4 of us). Let's just say the Christmas presents alone would not have fit in the M20E. More like a Cessna Caravan. However a light M20M is a traveling machine! -Matt
  25. Sean Tucker's School in King City CA is the most comprehensive. They can talior anything just for you. Ken Erickson and Ben Freelove have been teaching for Sean for over 15 years. I did a Pitts transition with Ken. Ben and I have done some advanced solo and formation work. Ben Eats sleeps and breaths Aerobatics. I think he understands the aerodynamics better than Sean. Ben is on The U.S. Team this year. The Pitts S2B will teach you anything you could want to know. His Rates aren't as high as you would think. There are a few hotels that have the school rate. Call me bias, but I think it's the best money one could spend on training...way fun too!! -Matt
