  1. The owner of the plane tint company is such a cool guy!! I’d buy his stuff just to support him. Totally excited about aviation. -Matt
  2. Good time to repaint the wing walk and make it look nice. Then seal it. A&P not required if you don’t mind the work. -Matt
  3. You could Seal the top. I wouldn’t seal the bottom. My wing root lasar fairings are not that long. I would cut out the old sealant use some 890 B1/2 sealant. -Matt
  4. Woah! A new spring and SB!! -Matt
  5. What is “high load carrying” oil? -Matt
  6. Hi -A-! I’ve used Tygon for oil and fuel drain lines with no issues. I’ve replaced various clear plastic or nylon lines due to cracking. Is Tygon under the panel that bad? Welcom A10! My install with the adaptors I made worked great right until the FAA issued an AD with the sandia 340A. HA! No fault of my adaptors. As of last week 10/24/21. Dennis from Sandia says they are very close to having a fix for the AD! -Matt
  7. Not just you. Even large MROs, and service centers are slammed. Gotta stay on them, show up, spread the love, buy lunch, grease a wheel. Etc. I don’t know if a single tech that needs work right now. -Matt
  8. To be fair they’ve been in there a while. Take a pick and dig the paint out. A #1 Phillips screwdriver will take the screws for the ring out. I’ve had more stainless screws strip than any other type.. -Matt
  9. Weather should be good most of the time. I’d run it hard and fly the snot out of it. You’ll develop your own sense of reliability after a few months. I would jump in mine and take it to TX today. No AP and currently no ADI. Upgrade as you see fit. Won’t find a better airplane for the mission… except for a more Equipped Mooney. Wish I had a more useful mission for mine as you do. -Matt
  10. Mooney, Heli, Falcon, and Cub this week. :-) -Matt
  11. Looks stunning!! Great job by all!! -Matt
  12. HA! I was on downwind at CMA when I saw a puff of dust mid field too. Had my daughters on board. 4 year olds first ride in the Mooney. Had my oldest too. 4yo was a little woozy. Tower informed us of the disabled airplane. I asked to land long past them. They said no. They needed to wait for Ops to check for FOD. Did one WIDE orbit requested to be number 1 for landing. They came back with a 30min delay until Ops could sweep the runway. 30min for a car to drive on the runway!! We then diverted to Santa Paula and hung out with friends. Second flight back to CMA was great. Everyone was happy. Had to tell mom why we were late. ;-) Great day. Bummer about the guys first flight. -Matt
  13. Welcome CAZ! Lots of techs here too. Let me know if you need anything for your training. What part of the country are you in? edit: Texas I see. -Matt
  14. Time for another dude! -Matt
  15. MEK will leave a residue. denatured alcohol will not. Everyone swears by MEK but I’ve used it less and less over the years. But I Agree on the softening properties of MEK. -Matt
  16. Their older electric gyros were horrible. Went through two of them. Saved enough to buy a sandia 340A. It rolled over… sent it back to the factory. Got it back, didn’t really trust it. Then An AD came out. Day VFR only! I’m ready to reinstall the vacuum system! -Matt
  17. Almonds, fruit, yeti filled with your favorite drink. Long trips I bring a little cooler and have some ice in it. That way It’s almost as good as the ice chest in the jet! Why not try the healthy stuff. -Matt
  18. Hi Don! What’s changed? -Matt
  19. West systems 105 with 205/206 hardner epoxy and some micro. Honestly you could probably sand and paint it. -Matt
  20. Exactly my concern. I even ordered the new gasket. Self adhesive sticky back to the back of the filter. It should seal better than it does, but I don’t want to risk ingestion. I don’t want anything that need to be replaced behind the filter. If the bracket used about 1/2 the fluid they do that would actually be better I think. -Matt
  21. For clarity, I was referring to the Donaldson as being a decent filter. Just not approved for the E/F. I’ve used them on 182s and such. -Matt
  22. Same issue. Donaldsons are nice. Cleanable element but not the sticky mess. I have a Challenger in mine now. The seals I feel are unsafe and I don’t install the seal anymore. I run the ram air most of the time and change the oil often. The entire intake on the airplane could be much nicer. This might be a really short thread! ;-) -Matt
  23. The problem is that the 3in hose on the oil cooler still doesn’t have enough enough volume. Could be more efficient than air flowing backwards through the cooler at the front of the cowl. I installed an air dam on mine like the C model has. I thought making the oil cooler have its own exit air out the left cheek would be the best. -Matt
  24. Aeroplex only manages a few larger corporate hangars on the north side. They have a few smaller hangars on the north side as well. You’ll need to call the city airport office directly for their hangars. Also try The Barkers. Bob Barkers wife runs a few hangar rows on the south side. -Matt
