  3. Brown aircraft can make and send the larger gasket. Just tell them you have a Mooney gascolator. Most of the ones we have ordered are too thick. 1/16 is the correct thickness. NO LUBE, it will lip out with torque. 15-20in lbs IAW SB. M20-200.
  4. Just wanted to bump this for Don. I recently purchased his G5 unit he had. Communication was great. Unit arrived better than advertised. I would NOT be afraid of working with him on any of his components. -Matt

  9. If I were to do it over again I would have paid more attention in math and gone to an aerospace engineering school. Skip the 141 training, then go to OTS and fly fighters. I went to SIU for aircraft maintenance, did part 61 training on the side, and finished my commercial with an A&P And BS in pocket. Cal poly for engineering I here is good. We competed in the collegiate aerobatic program with Embry and UND. Embry was always highly overpriced. -Matt

  12. Not on a Bravo but had the Lycoming version EIS (surefly makes them for lycoming) fail on a Cub 81h since new. Lycoming shows no stock. Only dealers can push for AOG parts after dealing with tech reps and troubleshooting is verified. I threatened to throw a set of slicks back on the airplane. -Matt
  13. It’s a Device Assembly Facility used for assembling atomic weapons. I thought it was strange too. I saw the TFR pop up a 2-3 weeks ago. The building is massive. Google maps has some neat pictures. -Matt
  14. No, the damage is inside the glass. Best fix is replacement. -Matt
  15. These are comm antennas. The 7 antennas are NLA. The CI-196 antenna is kinda neat. The connector is off center which allows the antenna to be placed on centerline. No gaskets required, just clean corrosion and seal it nicely. Bare metal on the base when sealed is ok. Ok to sand and repaint. Most store bought rattle cans will fade to an off white and full over time. Beats what you have. -Matt

  18. Even Toyota has issues. Took 6mo for a front pax door for our Sequoia last year. Same door as on a Tundra. Found one is South a Carolina in a box with an older date on it. This was on a current production vehicle. Let alone an airplane they made less than 200 of 50+ years ago. Unless the vendor grew up on the shop floor and now runs parts, you won’t get anything with out a part number. Parts people sit behind a desk and work from a computer. Many have never seen an airplane let alone the part you are trying to describe. -Matt

  20. I leave mine on the airplane unless flying. You need it to put it in the hangar, and to pull it out. I also leave it on the airplane if I think the airplane is going to need to be moved. More of a hint not to move it with a tug and just use the towbar that’s there. No towing damage, towbar theft, or start/taxing mishaps past 12y. When I crank I make visual contact with the towbar whether I left it in the hangar or baggage compartment. -Matt
  21. I’ve had flawless experiences with Lycon. I think I’ve sent Ken maybe 7 engines. The back log is worth the wait. A zero time engine means little to me. However, if that means I can have it now or in 8mo that would be a tough question. -Matt
  22. The Coated lifters have been around maybe 5-6 years now? They are outlasting most of the roller lifters from what I have read. With the roller lifters, You’ll need to exchange the case and that gets expensive. Early Roller engines had major issues discussed by several on the thread. I’m sure I’m not the only one staying with the stock lifters. The DCLs are better than stock. Most worthy shops will offer them as an option. Just wish they were around when I did my OH awhile back. -Matt
  23. I wouldn’t do a roller Cam engine. Stick with diamond coated lifters. Factory exchange requires a basically running engine. Highly recommend Lycon in CA. Ken will make it right. He might even have a line on an engine from Lycoming directly and be able to take yours as a core. -Matt

  25. Worst FBO experience I’ve had in 14 years of Mooney ownership was at that FBO. Ended up driving to Kingman in an Uber. Lady at the front desk was absolutely the wicked witch from the west. Tower was dangerous too. -Matt
