  1. No, the damage is inside the glass. Best fix is replacement. -Matt
  2. These are comm antennas. The 7 antennas are NLA. The CI-196 antenna is kinda neat. The connector is off center which allows the antenna to be placed on centerline. No gaskets required, just clean corrosion and seal it nicely. Bare metal on the base when sealed is ok. Ok to sand and repaint. Most store bought rattle cans will fade to an off white and full over time. Beats what you have. -Matt
  3. Our airplane had a 90° fitting and a Curtis 1550 drain on it. I like the set up. -Matt
  4. Looks awesome! Who are you and what have you done with all of your circuit breakers? ;-)!! -Matt
  5. Even Toyota has issues. Took 6mo for a front pax door for our Sequoia last year. Same door as on a Tundra. Found one is South a Carolina in a box with an older date on it. This was on a current production vehicle. Let alone an airplane they made less than 200 of 50+ years ago. Unless the vendor grew up on the shop floor and now runs parts, you won’t get anything with out a part number. Parts people sit behind a desk and work from a computer. Many have never seen an airplane let alone the part you are trying to describe. -Matt
  6. E model in SoCal, it would be fun to say Hi! -Matt
  7. I leave mine on the airplane unless flying. You need it to put it in the hangar, and to pull it out. I also leave it on the airplane if I think the airplane is going to need to be moved. More of a hint not to move it with a tug and just use the towbar that’s there. No towing damage, towbar theft, or start/taxing mishaps past 12y. When I crank I make visual contact with the towbar whether I left it in the hangar or baggage compartment. -Matt
  8. I’ve had flawless experiences with Lycon. I think I’ve sent Ken maybe 7 engines. The back log is worth the wait. A zero time engine means little to me. However, if that means I can have it now or in 8mo that would be a tough question. -Matt
  9. The Coated lifters have been around maybe 5-6 years now? They are outlasting most of the roller lifters from what I have read. With the roller lifters, You’ll need to exchange the case and that gets expensive. Early Roller engines had major issues discussed by several on the thread. I’m sure I’m not the only one staying with the stock lifters. The DCLs are better than stock. Most worthy shops will offer them as an option. Just wish they were around when I did my OH awhile back. -Matt
  10. I wouldn’t do a roller Cam engine. Stick with diamond coated lifters. Factory exchange requires a basically running engine. Highly recommend Lycon in CA. Ken will make it right. He might even have a line on an engine from Lycoming directly and be able to take yours as a core. -Matt
  11. Looks like he had a shoulder harness! -Matt
  12. Worst FBO experience I’ve had in 14 years of Mooney ownership was at that FBO. Ended up driving to Kingman in an Uber. Lady at the front desk was absolutely the wicked witch from the west. Tower was dangerous too. -Matt
  13. I think it works both ways. I love the idea, and for some it works. Each system has its own faults and you’ve discovered a limitation. Savvy has just has a little bit too much marketing taste for me. I’ve worked in shops, large and small markets, that have refused service to Savvy customers. From a Dom/tech standpoint, it’s hard for an outside source, other than the manufacture, to provide insight to a customer. I’d take your 25y experience and be your own advocate. Talk to the guys on the floor. You’ll know just like you found out what’s BS or not. I’ve represented clients on contract just to help be the interface between operators and shops. I show up, see what the problem is, see how the guys are handling it. If I don’t like it I say something. It’s pretty simple. Some shops can move in the direction you want, others won’t. (I won’t get into Gulfstream Tech Ops :-) -Matt
  14. Tune is great. It was safer with out the tower. Contour is good. The GM is really nice, probably won’t charge an overnight if you make friends and buy gas. Uber works really well everywhere I’ve needed to go. I’ve made some good friends along the way. Good eats below. I’ve flown there for work the last 10y. 15. VPLSR is a good fix too. Basically anything on the 312° radial. You’ll really enjoy it. -Matt
  16. LA special flight rules at 3,500 south and 4,500 north is the best way. Mini route is usually closed. Don’t need to talk with anyone but SoCal controllers are typically really good. -Matt
  17. Airplane looks really clean and straight from the pictures. I wouldn’t paint it. I haven’t seen anyone quote a single color for under 10k. That rudder horn is easily correctable. 95k is still a premium price. -Matt
  18. Garmin Didn’t even have a TSO at the time! That’s why I believe they needed the STC. Did the G5 ever receive a TSO? Silly me when for the Sandia 340A because it had the TSO. There was no STC for the Sandia because it met the TSO!! -Matt
  19. Those are fine, but we are speaking of the inner cap that the vintage airplanes had with 3 screws that covers the wheel nut itself. Univair has them for $497. I would sign off a 3D printed one. -Matt
  20. I highly doubt they were Mag but could be as a lot of the older Cleveland wheels were mag. Some one should print them! I’d donate a used one for the effort. -Matt
  21. The factory used knife connections in many places. Overtime they loosen up. attached pictures of my oil temp connection. I just replaced the connectors and butspliced the wires. The landing gear relays were spliced in too. -Matt
  22. Pizza and Beer usually works! Açai bowls work too! -Matt
  23. Armatures! I saved mine from the scrap yard too! it’ll be worth it. -Matt
  24. XM is awesome. It’s always less scary live next to the thunderstorm than it shows on the screen. I hope it can stay like that. I flew around some popcorn today. One can always look out the window. -Matt
  25. Such a great lamp! I bet they were noisy when new. I have one on mine. You can still buy them new from ACS. -Matt
