Looks like Mike would do 3 point take offs also. So I guess that’s what he could have been doing also.

I think a lot of use are having a hard time believing our overbuilt Mooney wings can actually fail and taco up like that. Something really bad happened up there and hopefully there is enough clean wing spar left to do the analysis. Sad deal, RIP pilot and passengers!

It doesn’t look like he even got his tail lifted off the ground before lift off. It sure seems like he would of aborted the flight as soon as he wasn’t able to do that. Really sad seeing this! edit: I see in the last post he was in a 400 hp turbine. Probably used to not having to lift the tail.

I bought 6 new Continental NiC3 coated cylinder and had them dropped shipped straight to Lycon. Lycon ported, polished, flow balanced the cylinders and refaced all the valves and seats. Im hoping this will overcome some of the problems people have been experiencing. So far only 100 hours on them.

I won’t be able to make it but looks fun!

No problems after the power conditioner was installed.

Glad you delayed your flight. I flew from Missoula MT to San Diego on Tuesday, a day earlier than planned because of weather your talking about. One of the more uncomfortable flights I have had in years. Consistent light and moderate turbulence from Salmon ID to Las Vegas. The higher I climb the greater the head wind with no relief of the turbulence. I wanted to land Elko NV for a break but the surface winds were bad enough I opted to continue on. I also had the great fortune of head winds on my flight there the week before but at least it was smooth. This year in general has been a bumpy year of flying with lots wind.

I use a medium size clip and a note pad. I prefer pen with metal clips instead of plastic ones so they don’t break as easy.

It looks like a different week will work out better to get a group together.

I will be at our place in Lolo for a week and was going to fly over Glacier one morning for some sight seeing. The weather is looking great! I thought some people in the area might want to get together. I can do any day between the 3rd-8th. I assume the weekend would work best for most people. Seeley Lake (23S) or Ferndale (53U) looked like nice turf strips for a meet up. Let’s see if @john buhrman, @Mufflerbearing, @merlin, @AH-1 Cobra Pilot, or @PeteMc have any interest. I will be in Montana just about every other week from now on so if those dates don’t work we can try another time.

I’m going to be flying my plane up in MT next week. I walked Seeley lake(23S) strip last week and looked like a nice turf strip to to land on. If anyone interested in meeting up there next week let me know. Weather looks great so far. They also have on field camp sights with plenty of firewood for those interested.

For all of us that don’t know the big words. Traits of a Narcissist, copied and pasted. People with NPD expect to get special treatment. They exaggerate their own smarts, success, power, and looks. The lack of empathy leads them to take advantage of people, with no regrets. Narcissists may be extremely jealous and ultra-sensitive. Because they tend to be very thin-skinned, they may angrily lash out at any criticism or push-back. Narcissists also may lash out when they feel like they’re not getting special treatment. Underneath all of these traits is a deep sense of insecurity. And — no big surprise, when you consider all these traits — narcissists may find it super-difficult to have healthy relationships, and have loads of trouble at work or school

I now have 3 kids and have considered a bigger plane but I came to the conclusion that I have my Mooney and the commercial airlines. Between the 2 I have pretty darn good dispatch rate. I sometimes do a hybrid sending a few commercial and taking a few in the Mooney. I personally don’t find flying the entire family very much fun. I don’t mind flying 1 kid but when I get the 2 that are closer in age it is just too much stuff going on in the back ground for me. Plus all the bags! When I fly on my own personal trips the flying and planning is part of the trip and fun but when its the family it gets a lot more stressful for me. I don’t like the feeling that the success of the family trip is riding on my shoulders(pun intended). If I had low traffic, smooth air and great weather all the time it might be a deferent story.

I agree that the market will always go up and down. If you followed Warren Buffet advice you would sell while people are buying. Av-Gas prices and/or availability could be a killer on the market here soon. Freedom and the safety of personal travel has been priceless over the past year and possibly in the future with the virus variations, vaccine passports, ect.

Made some progress on the KitFox. I wish I could claim 100% of the work but I can’t. I had to get some outside help to keep the project moving along but I join in often. I have an IG account @kitfoxkarson where I post progress pics for those interested.

Looking at a static alignment of the spinner/cowl isn’t necessarily correct. You need you look at the spinner/cowl alignment during a run up. A lot of positional changes when under power.

The capacitor is fairly large. Maybe they decided it wasn’t necessary with the new design.

I alternate batteries when starting. I haven’t noticed a difference between the batteries and SIM performance.

I'm still happy with my installation and it has performed flawlessly with the power conditioner installed. I will be curious of what the size and shape of the new unit will be if its an all in one. Not much room to spare on some engines.
