  1. I think that is exactly what happened. The pitot tube reads ram pressure which is static plus dynamic. Yours became blocked with water which trapped the ram pressure in the system. Since you were descending there came a point when the trapped static pressure component in the system became lower than the actual static pressure and so your airspeed indicator reports low. If you were climbing it would be the opposite.
  2. wife: what are you doing today honey? me: oh, nothing! wife: you did that yesterday me: I wasn’t finished!
  3. My point exactly! A certified G3X touch would satisfy those owners who just can’t justify txi cost and who have no other option currently. By not having it Garmin leaves money on the table!
  4. A certified G3X touch would satisfy those owners who just can’t justify txi cost and who have no other option currently.
  5. Or a G3X touch by Oshkosh! I’m waiting!
  6. No one needs to force Garmin’s hand! A certified G3X touch would fit nicely in the Garmin lineup. And it would put the Aspens and Skyviews out of their misery!
  7. I’d wait till Oshkosh this summer if you can. I predict Garmin will roll out a certified G3X touch. The dynamics are there for this to happen.
  8. Asymmetric board deployment introduces a yawing moment which is noticeable but controllable. More noticeable at higher speeds. The newer ones have an auto-retract feature. It senses a differential in the rates of deployment and will retract them.
  9. I use them when I’m in the plane!
  10. The yield depends on the size of the hides and plan on ~25% of the hide to be waste. I’d get 3 hides since they’re on sale. I did my entire interior, seats and backs, headrests, armrests and side panels trim on two hides.
  11. I’d stop experimenting and follow the checklist.
  12. Respect him/her for being a CFI. Even though you may not agree both sides can always learn from each other. Popular belief or opinion isn’t always correct.
  13. Again, there are, imo, real trade-offs. I went through this decision process as well and ended up with a GTN 750. It was a no brainer! Installation wasn’t the deciding factor. Pales in comparison to other considerations. @BaldEagle pm me if you wish and I'll be happy to share my thoughts.
  14. Before you make your decision be sure to see them both in person and play with them. You may find that you like one a lot more over the other. I know Garmin demo dealers have units setup for this purpose. Garmin also has simulator on website you can download. It’s easy to make the wrong decision thinking about an easier installation. There are tradeofffs with that you may not like.
  15. Absolutely the 750 with remote 345 and 35C.
  16. There are aircraft owners who are reluctant to install a txi due to cost, but would if it made financial sense for their airplane. A certified G3X touch would come in at roughly half the cost of the txi. There is a large market segment but the option doesn’t exist. The choices right now are: do nothing, or txi. Nothing in between. I predict a certified G3X touch come Oshkosh.
  17. I'm not so sure the txi is selling really well. Or to put it another way, to whom is it selling? How many have been installed in Mooneys for example? Only a few here on ms. If you exclude the one who is a coowner of an aviation shop and the other that was an upgrade of an original G500, how many new installations have there been? A couple? Is Garmin happy about how its selling? Has it met expectations? I don't know. Do you know? I was going to install a txi but last minute decided to wait till Oshkosh. I really think they will certify the G3X touch. It is sufficiently different and I think it will sell off the shelves once certified. I think the txi has really tested Garmin's pricing philosophy. The G3X touch will make a lot more sense and will sell very well to a lot of airframes whose value just can't justify txi costs.
  18. Is this a good idea really? Not a fan of button pushing to configure display during an approach in IMC.
  19. I was going to say maybe wait a few months till Oshkosh to see what happens. Buy I saw you mentioned that your AI/HSI is failing. I predict Garmin will roll out a certified G3X touch which would be sweet! I was set to do the txi but decided to wait a little longer. Lots of luck with your decision.
  20. I think they would price it sufficiently lower than the txi. But at 25k I would definitely go Garmin anything over Dynon, BK or Aspen. Personal preference.
  21. Well, have they met their goals with the txi? How many have they sold at its price point? I don't know the answer but I do think Garmin is about providing us with options. It would be great for airframes whose hull value is at or below what they want for the txi!
  22. Every once in a while BK needs to be slapped out of their heavy sleep. I predict Garmin will slap them this time by certifying the G3X touch this year at Oshkosh.
  23. Gary, in my view the only time I’d consider going for a primary engine monitor would be if I was redoing the panel. Only then would it make some sense to remove the original primary gauges. The beauty of your setup as you point out is that the 830 gives you everything you need. Its advisory status means nothing because its doing everything the 900 would do. I have an older 800 doing exactly the same thing in my panel. I’m waiting a few months for Oshkosh to see what Garmin rolls out. My prediction is they will certify the G3X touch. If so I’ll go for it. But even so I’d be hard pressed to remove my original primary gauge strip.
  24. Very capable and beautiful panel Steve. Enjoy! I was planning to go the txi route myself but last minute decided to wait the few months till Oshkosh to see what comes out. I predict Garmin will roll out a certified G3X touch!
  25. By accusing vendors that their bisiness plan is selling faulty electronics, you are doing a major disservice to your fellow mooneyspacers. JPI as well as EI make excellent quality engine monitors. Neither one of them would knowingly sell faulty equipment. It's electronics! I've had an EDM for ten years now almost 900 hours and it's been solid. Not one issue. I'm sure many EI owners can say the same. But if and when an issue arises they both step up and take care of their customers.
