  1. The human thumb is a digit but not considered a finger. It is “opposable” meaning it faces and can touch the four fingers. This is true of most primates but humans have the most opposable thumbs. We can move our thumb farther across our hand than any other primate. Therefore we can use our thumb to point to and count the 12 phalanges of the fingers!
  2. Each human hand in fact has 12 phalanges (finger bones.) 3 in each of the four fingers. So it is possible to count to 12!
  3. These seem relatively inexpensive and can be disposable. I wonder how they work and how long they last. https://www.bestreviews.guide/carbon-monoxide-detector-for-car
  4. We see things differently. Aspen is small potatoes. No real competition for Garmin. Actually I don’t think Garmin has any serious competition. A G5 is not a pfd/mfd. A G3X touch will be a welcome addition to the Garmin line. G5<G3X touch<TXi.
  5. He was caught by the feds peeing on somebody’s plane!
  6. I renewed my policy a couple weeks ago with Old Republic through AOPA. My 2 million smooth premium came in at 7% less from last year. Same exact policy with same underwriter.
  7. I’d wait the few months for Oshkosh and decide then. Recognize that there has been a shift from TSO to STC. Garmin will most likely jump on the bandwagon by certifying ths G3X touch. This would be huge! You’d be able to get Garmin equipment for less money than what txi costs. Assuming of course you want the best equipment your money can buy. There will always be a market for txi in higher value airframes but a lower cost Garmin option is desperately needed, and it’s coming! Also something not talked about much is the fact that it’s most desirable to stick to one manufacturer and not mix and match. This way you avoid incompatibilities and everything works as it should. Garmin is the only manufacturer with this capability.
  8. In the hierarchy of disagreement chart ad hominem is down at the bottom of the list. At the very bottom in fact right next to name calling. It’s a strategy used by someone who is incapable of a genuine discussion on the topic at hand, and instead attacks the character of the person making the argument.
  9. No it’s not. The TXi is TSO’d and it was developed prior to the lower cost STC approach. A certified G3X touch is a no brainer.
  10. If you're not in a hurry you may want to wait till Oshkosh later this year. Garmin will most likely announce the certified G3X touch which would blow Aspen out of the water!
  11. Get it out of your mind and forget it! Keep looking. There are other planes out there without such serious baggage.
  12. All damage is not created equal. Parts can be replaced all day long but that doesn’t necessarily erase damage history imo. I’m interested in what caused the damage and how the parts were damaged. Say someone comes in to land hot and ends up in the weeds clipping a fence post with a wing spinning the plane around and causing major damage. Replacing the wing does not erase damage history in my book!
  13. Your AP with his "previous Mooney experience in his repertoire" should know. And if he doesn't know what is it you're paying him for? This is what I mean when I say being "versed" in the type and why a well regarded MSC is worth it. If your AP doesn't know the type like the back of his hand, he is wasting your time and money.
  14. What I'd do is find a very well regarded MSC that's agreeable to you and use it for all your annuals. In California you have several to choose from. My favorite is Top Gun based on experience. I'm sure the others are very good. A proper Mooney annual requires time. Since time is my money I want them to use my time efficiently. That's the key. This is what I pay my MSC to do for me. Any mechanic can swing wrenches but if they don't know the type they will waste your time and of course your money. A Mooney versed MSC will use your time efficiently. Remember the old addage: there's no free lunch. And of course the benefits are that you'll be maintaining your Mooney properly for as long as you enjoy it, and there will be value for the buyer when you sell it. My philosophy is if I were a buyer I would only consider MSC maintained Mooneys and would be willing to pay the extra premium. This is how I bought mine and very happy I did. I'm amused at some owners who are cheap and skimp on proper, by the book maintainance, but want top dollar when they sell!
  15. That was in the distant past. When immigrants would knock on our door and ask for permission to enter our country. All they wanted was to work. And they worked hard, raised their familes and contributed greatly to the success of our country. Fast forward to today. What do we have? Caravans who feel entitled to come in and take what they want. What do we do about that? Hint: The reason we put doors on our homes is to be able to close them. If we didn't care to close them we wouldn't need doors! A country's borders are its doors!
  16. Leaky bladder is a sign of Urinary Incontinence. It’s loss of bladder control, and ranges from a slight loss of urine after sneezing, coughing, or laughing to complete inability to control urination. It’s more common in women. Is your Mooney a boy or girl?
  17. It’s kind funny how the pax jumped out! Threw his bag out and rolled on the tarmac! “I’m outa here!!”
  18. And that is the difference. You see, I don’t blindly listen to and follow others! But say, hypothetically, were I to listen to others, and don’t take this the wrong way and get more bent out of shape, I wouldn’t listen to you! I’d do exactly the opposite!
  19. I prefer to look at this as I described. My approach works for me. THANK YOU.
  20. This lawnmower with wings stuff got me thinking since I have one. Say I decide one day to use my lawnmower with wings to cut down some brush around the airport. Does it mean my lawnmower will need a teardown inspection before further mowing?
  21. Price is high imo. The equipment is decent but not that great to justify the high asking price. It’s still a 53 year old airframe! You're paying a premium for the middle man. Have you shopped around? It’s good education to compare some that are for sale privately by owners. https://www.aerotrader.com/listing/1981-Mooney-M20J-5005302379
  22. A proper OH, as Bob Bramble does, will cost you ~$2K. If you go that route you may want to consider spending just a little more and replace the vacuum pump. Then you’ll be set for a long time. I’d trust that in imc more than any glass. Certainly a lot more than an Aspen for sure.
  23. I just renewed today with Old Republic through AOPA. My 2 million smooth premium came in at 7% less from last year. Same exact policy with same underwriter.
  24. There are some things more reasonable than others.
