How so? Hate to break it to you but they are functionally identical instruments! The only difference is size. Which is why I suggested you put in the EDM900.
-
Being that the EDM is primary I want it to be directly in my view. I would have removed the WX900 and put in an EDM900 in its place. Then put a WX500 in the back or move the WX900 where the edm is now.

Is anyone else disturbed by this thread or is it just me? Are folks actually using flaps to slow down? And is there really so much confusion about Vfe? Vfe IS THE HIGHEST PERMISSIBLE SPEED WITH FLAPS IN A PRESCRIBED EXTENDED POSITION. This speed is going to be higher for T/O flaps and lower for any setting beyond T/O. It’s spelled out in the POH. For example my POH says this speed is 132 KIAS for T/O setting and 115 KIAS for ANY SETTING BEYOND T/O, i.e. 15° to full down.

I don’t find it a fair comparison to compare a VFR Aspen to a dual G5. A fair comparison would be a VFR Aspen to a single AI G5 or an Aspen Pro1000 (plus gpss adapter) to dual G5’s. No HSI in the aspen is a major drawback. To say the Aspen is more capable is not accurate. It gives you the option to spend an additional 5 K to get these features. Compare them as they come out of the box at about 5K. The redundancy alone that two G5’s offer is a huge advantage over one Aspen E5.

@Steve Skinner I’m wondering is yours the first txi install in a Mooney for the shop?

Problem with gyro compass - M20J, Mooney 201
m20kmooney replied to Johannes's topic in Avionics/Panel Discussion
Problem is in the KG102A. It needs to come out of the airplane to be bench tested and serviced by someone familiar with it. -
Are they accepting responsibility to replace it? I would not let them take it apart. This needs to be done by an autopilot or avionics shop because it involves the autopilot controls. There are 6 wires under there on the trim switch that need to be disconnected and reconnected in order to replace that housing. The disconnect and CWS switches are easier but that trim switch needs to come out first. It’s easiest to cut the wires down behind the yoke and resolder them.

Do you have better pics? From that image it is my impression that it may be the base plate. It’s hard to distinguish on that pic. Actually I may be wrong and it may indeed be the housing. What’s throwing me off pn that pic is that broken protrusion on the bottom edge. That doesn’t belong there and I can’t tell what it is.

Avidyne WiFi/BT Failure General Announcement
m20kmooney replied to DualRatedFlyer's topic in Vintage Mooneys (pre-J models)
Should be but unfortunately it’s not. The internet empowers insecure haters and brings out their real colors. And these types band together. Misery does love company. Expressing dissenting opinions is not allowed and risks being called a troll, a fool and stupid. But that doesn't bother me. Their opinion is not important to me. As I said earlier I’m in the process of redoing my panel and was looking at options from Garmin and Avidyne. Someone said that Avidyne is privately funded which is something I didn’t know and I thanked him for the info. I said not knowing their financial health I would be nervous investing all the major money it takes to redo a panel. They are here today and may be gone tomorrow. This is how I feel and it’s my opinion and decision. One of these insecure types apparently got a bad case of hives when I said that and jumped to call me stupid and to look up softbank. Well I did. May I inform the “gentleman” that softbank is a publically traded company and not privately funded. Big difference. But I will refrain from calling him and his comments stupid, as he did, because I will not descend to his level and that of his pals. In any case thank you to all who share information. I have made my decisions and can’t wait to start. Hopefully soon. -
Balancing things. Your CNBC story is one sided. And yes, I’m still here. Am I not allowed? Do I need your permission? You may not like that but no apologies.

Such sophomoric responses do not deserve another. -
Was it a double yolk or a single jumbo one? Heavy yolks make the best omelettes!

Good to know thinwing. Thank you for your valuable opinion and input. I had no idea they were privately funded. That explains a lot. Their funds are limited and we don’t know their financial health. They’re here today and may be gone tomorrow. Unfortunately that uncertainty makes it a no go for me. -

As I said I’m researching. But to say negative hearsay with no foundation is being disingenuous. There are issues reported on both Garmin and Avidyne. It just seems there are disproportionally more on Avidyne. -

Well they seem to have a lot more issues and glitches than Garmin. I’m not a fan of Garmin necessarily but there are some dark clouds over Avidyne for sure. Not too long ago there was someome on here who was grounded due to an Avidyne issue with his G500. I don’t know the reasons why but it makes me think long and hard about my panel upgrade. Whatever happened with your issue @thinwing? Are you still grounded? -

m20kmooney replied to DualRatedFlyer's topic in Vintage Mooneys (pre-J models)
No. The two are intimately connected. I’m not prepared nor willing to let Garmin or Avidyne in this case off the hook. Not for the kind of money we spend on these vendors. We are their consumers and we need to advocate for us. Not doing so is treasonous. I’m in the process of researching and planning a panel upgrade. Reading this kind of stuff is disappointing. -

I agree with you. However the customer’s feeling is his/her “reality” and the difference is huge. If I go to a restaurant and I don’t like it I simply don’t go back. But if I just paid 20 grand and I feel stuck and ignored it’s a “reality” that hits like a ton of bricks. -

It may be a little different when a customer pays $19.99 for a sandwich he didn’t like vs. one paying $19900.00 for avionics that don’t work. And getting ignored on top of it!
