  1. I never block anyone either. I fly a pig with wings myself.
  2. Yes I do. It's a proverbial expression. My point was that the value of an airframe is largely determined and capped by its age. Not by how much money the good owner decides to put in it. Very much like the value of a home is capped by its location and not by how much money the owner puts into it. Feel free to block me if you disagree or if it'd make you feel better.
  3. You'd have brand new avionics in a newer airframe. No brainer!
  4. Right on! An F will never be worth anywhere near 125K. No matter what you put in it. A pig with lipstick is a pig. Also consider what are you really buying. A 50 year old airframe with old avionics, like 10 or 12 year old aspens for example, you have exactly that. An old airframe with old avionics that needs work. You'd have to upgrade the upgraded plane you think you bought! I think it's always best to buy the newest affordable airframe. Airframe age is like "location" in real estate. It's the one thing you can't change.
  5. TXI is for Texas instruments. It’s for vintage birds to go nicely with their vintage TI30 or similar!
  6. Welcome to the world of avionics.
  7. For you upgrading your Century it may make sense. But for me it doesn’t. I will never remove my solid working KFC150 and pay 25k! That’s crazy nuts! No gain, huge loss!
  8. I assume there are installation costs. Unless you're going to put it in the baggage compartment!
  9. Pressing AP, FD, ALT on the KFC150 will roll wings level. That's a form of envelope protection. So what else does the GFC500 do to warrant all this expense?
  10. I just had the pitch servo done by autopilots central. Well under $1000.
  11. I look at the cost/gain ratio. Not enough gain relative to cost. The KFC150 is a digital autopilot. The KFC200 is analogue and I could be persuaded to replace it. Maybe. But not the 150.
  12. Why would you take out a KFC150 only to turn around and put in a GFC500? It seems the cost/gain ratio is extremely unfavorable! Unless of course there’s something seriously wrong with the KFC150 rendering it unrepairable. I had a similar discussion with Allan of Autopilots Central not too long ago. His advice was keep the KFC150! It’s as solid as they come!
  13. As an owner of Garmin equipment all I care about is that they take care of me. And they do. Their equipment is flawless. If it works with others or not I really don’t care honestly! I know owners of Aspens complain about Garmin as do owners of Avidynes. Their energy is misdirected. If they have issues or concerns that Garmin “doesn't play good” with their xyz box take it up with their respective manufacturers.
  14. Garmin is the way to go! In avionics upgrades it’s akways best to stay with one manufacturer and avoid mixing components. Garmin offers you everything you need without the drama associated with incompatibilities.
  15. I would sit tight till Oshkosh when Garmin rolls out the certified G3X touch. Then I would replace the Aspen with a G3X touch. I’d leave the 430W alone until it gives you reason to remove. Then I woukd put in GTN650.
  16. This is not accurate. He doesn't know what he’s talking about. He has an agenda. He’s just throwing out numbers without any basis. Not very helpful. With a proper OH you should get closer to 1000 hours. Mr. Bramble is the best of the best. He will recommend to you what to do and what you can expect.
  17. I will never forget to zero the totalizer just as I will never forget to put my gear down.
  18. Nothing lowly about the EDM700! I don't see any need for changing fuel senders when you have fuel totalizer functions on the EDM. I trust my 800 and 450 more than any fuel senders.
  19. What was the "significant damage on the 337" ? Do you know? And why did the owner tell you the plane has all logs and no damage?
  20. Mr. Garrison’s is entitled to his opinion but he’s not paying the money. Therefore it has no bearing in the purchase decision.
  21. I’d walk away and find another plane. There are many airplanes out there without these issues. Different people have different levels of tolerance for this drama. Personally my level is “zero tolerance” for missing logs and damage history. Price reduction is not a factor. I will not consider such candidates, period.
  22. I’m not speaking semantics! I’m explaining your instruments to you so you get a clear understanding. No need for you to apologize. You’re welcome!
  23. The flight director command bars don’t tell you which way to “head.” They are overlaid on your attitude indicator and show you the “attitude” required to follow a selected and precise path in 3d space. Nothing to do with heading.
  24. Your KI256 is not a heading indicator. It’s an attitude indicator. More precisely a flight command indicator since you have the KFC200. It is vacuum driven and provides attitude teference to the autopilot. This is a totally different system than the KCS55A which is your compass system. This is all electric and your HSI is a part of that. A lot of people confuse this and go ripping out components without knowing what they are doing.
