markejackson02 Posted April 6, 2010 Report Posted April 6, 2010 Tech left the master on when doing my static check. Totally run down. I have it on a BatteryMinder at 4A. Anything else I can do to resucitate it? Fluid levels are fine.
eaglebkh Posted April 6, 2010 Report Posted April 6, 2010 Same thing happened to me recently. 2 hours on a charger was enough to at least get it cranked (can't remember amperage). The following flight was 3 hours, and it seems to be fine now.
DonMuncy Posted April 6, 2010 Report Posted April 6, 2010 In my experience, it depends on the length of time it was discharged. If a battery is completed run down and lsft that way for 2 weeks, it may be ruined. Over night seems not to be a problem. Don't ask me how long is too long. Don
Barry Posted April 6, 2010 Report Posted April 6, 2010 I agree with Don. Running a battery flat DOES take a bit life out of it. Allowing it to stay flat for an extended period of time will kill it.

RJBrown Posted April 10, 2010 Report Posted April 10, 2010 Being left discharged is bad for the battery and can damage it as stated here. Being discharged in freezing conditions can kill it immediately. When a lead acid battery is discharged the specifit gravity of the electrolyte drops and like water it can freeze. If the fluid freezes it can swell the case and crush the plates.
