mschmuff Posted May 30, 2013 Report Posted May 30, 2013 Anyone have this issue? It just started a couple weeks ago. I completely stripped the weather seal off and replaced it but that didn't do anything. We opened up the door and couldn't see anything wrong.....ideas????
1964-M20E Posted May 30, 2013 Report Posted May 30, 2013 On mine when I first got it the pin at the main latach did not engage on my first flight home. The door did not pop open completly but you could see light around the door. It happened a few more times on other flights but I learned that I needed to make sure the handle rotated all the way forward to ensure a complete latch. Since then no problems

Since then no problems Mine does the same if you don't give it that little extra force on the handle. Also make sure you're pulling consistantly inward on the door when latching.
peter Posted May 30, 2013 Report Posted May 30, 2013 This has happened to me before, always solved with an adjustment of the door latch mechanism by my A&P.
Hank Posted May 30, 2013 Report Posted May 30, 2013 When closing the door, hold it hard but don't slam it. Push the handle forward and down, mine will hesitate then move the last half-inch home with an audible click. Otherwise it will pop open.
jlunseth Posted May 30, 2013 Report Posted May 30, 2013 Yes, the door latch needs to be adjusted. Movement of the aircraft causes negative pressure, which causes the latch to let go. Often it is only one of the two latches that let's go, but in trying to close the door the pilot fully unlatches the door. It is difficult to close in the air because of the pressure wanting to hold it open. A&P can fix.
robert7467 Posted May 30, 2013 Report Posted May 30, 2013 Happened to me twice. I think its my push to talk button going sideways and lifting up on the latch when I turn the yoke. I have been keeping an eye on it, and it hasnt happened since.
