romair Posted April 5, 2013 Report Posted April 5, 2013 I am looking to start my IFR training sometime next month. I have about 50 hrs in my Mooney, and slightly over 100 in total. I never received true Mooney specific training, and this website has been incredibly helpful in terms of the collective information that it offers. I was thinking of getting my IFR training with a Mooney specific instructor, and this way pick up a few more practical tips. Any suggestions for the dfw area? Thanks, Stefan 89 m20 j
BigTex Posted April 6, 2013 Report Posted April 6, 2013 Stefan - Give Jerry Johnson a call. Not sure if he will do IFR training but he provided my transition training and did a great job. He has 5000+ hours in Mooney's. PM me if you need his number. 1
DonMuncy Posted April 6, 2013 Report Posted April 6, 2013 +1 for Jerry Johnson. In addition to knowing his business, he is a good teacher and a nice guy.
jetdriven Posted April 6, 2013 Report Posted April 6, 2013 +2 for Jerry Johnson. He is a MPPP director as well and knows Mooneys.
fantom Posted April 6, 2013 Report Posted April 6, 2013 +3 for Jerry. A Mooney guru for sure. Some time ago he owned a beautiful 252.
BigTex Posted April 7, 2013 Report Posted April 7, 2013 Jerry just installed he 3rd engine in his M20C... Last year it won MAPA M20C of the year.
jetdriven Posted April 7, 2013 Report Posted April 7, 2013 He said he bought that M20C back in 1973, from a guy who was desperate to unload cheap because "They are about to ban 100LL". he also has a nice 201 style panel in it. His son Mark has a really nice 1982 M20J as well.
Hank Posted April 7, 2013 Report Posted April 7, 2013 Jerry is great. He was my PPP instructor when I first bought my C. Very knowledgeable, and will teach what you need to be safe. Proficiency is up to you--practice, practice, practice.
