harrispa Posted February 28, 2013 Report Posted February 28, 2013 See attached pictures for my cheap solution to mounting the Ipad with minimal space required. The clamp is a 1 in EMT or conduit clamp from Home Depot with silicone rubber to reduce to the size needed. I used .060 Aluminum bent to desired position with a piece of foam behind it for stability. If I didn't have the map light switch, I would not need the washers. My Ipad has a plastic rear cover which has the velcro attached to it. Works great. Paul Quote
Bob_Belville Posted February 28, 2013 Report Posted February 28, 2013 It appear the forward travel of the yoke is restricted and the when you push in and swing yoke stop to stop you scraping the panel.? Quote
harrispa Posted February 28, 2013 Author Report Posted February 28, 2013 Nothing hits anywhere what you are looking at is the yoke at the forward stop. Even there nothing hits. Also, this is rough 1st try and I will be cleaning it up to make it look nicer. Quote
rbridges Posted February 28, 2013 Report Posted February 28, 2013 how is your view of the panel? Quote
harrispa Posted February 28, 2013 Author Report Posted February 28, 2013 My view of the panel is not obstructed. You can place ipad at different heights to accomodate your preference. I am tall at 6'2" and have the fully adjustable seats, so have no problem seeing the panel. Paul Quote

On the version 2 please put a lip on the bottom edge with a nice radius that turns the edge back up. Quote
AmigOne Posted February 28, 2013 Report Posted February 28, 2013 I like these simple ideas that save money. I have a few throughout my interior/panel. My problem with the iPad and from what it seems to be the case in your setup, is that there isn't much space left to grab the yoke. Not having an a/p I spend a lot more time holding the yoke that you would. And we know how stiff the Mooney controls are. Quote
Bennett Posted February 28, 2013 Report Posted February 28, 2013 Well done. I previously bought a Mini iPad specifically for a yoke mount running ForeFlight sectional charts. I finally have received the new RAM mount for my Mini iPad that will replace the earlier RAM mount that blocked the on/off switch, and was too thick. This one has the Mini sliding in from the top, with all controls accessible. Alas, the height of the ball attachment on the back is lower than the original mount. This will potentially cause visual problems relative to the guages, and I don't want to have the mount touch the yoke map light control button. I'm trying a slightly sideways setup (using offset mounting holes in the mount). The Mini will remain equal distance from the yoke horns, and if it works out I will post some photos. If all else fails, I have a couple of old yoke mounts that I can adapt with a flat plate like yours, and Velcro. Can't test that until I get the airplane back from the avionics shop - replacing the vacuum AI, and perhaps the pitch servo for the KAP 150. Dang! Just when everything was working perfectly, and when I was ready for some long cross country flights. Murphy's Law at work. Quote
harrispa Posted February 28, 2013 Author Report Posted February 28, 2013 AmigOne, You are right, the Ipad is a little large and with my simple mount, you really can't get your fingers all the way around the yoke unless you move it all the way to the right side. An Ipad mini would work great, but then the plates would be smaller. I have only flown a few times with this mount and the grip hasn't bothered me. Just my experience, yours may vary. Paul Quote
Bob_Belville Posted February 28, 2013 Report Posted February 28, 2013 I just received a suction adapter for my RAM Yoke Mount for my GPS696. The suction mount allows me to get the 696 off the co-pilot yoke. I think I am really going to like it. Quote
yvesg Posted March 1, 2013 Report Posted March 1, 2013 I am investigating putting a mount on my yoke for my Ipad mini however, I do have the original analog clock in the middle. Any suggestions about how to keep usage of this clock? Or do guys just stop using it when the Ipad is there? Yves Quote

Yves For the stopwatch feature, if you use Garmin Pilot, you can use the timer in the tools menu. Top of this picture. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk Quote
AmigOne Posted March 6, 2013 Report Posted March 6, 2013 I love the looks of my analog clock to and I used it in the past to monitor switching fuel tanks but now with so much electronic stuff its usefulness is gone. My 696 is mounted on the yoke and it warns me big time to "switch tanks". Quote

Of course the 560 is a little bit smaller. José Quote
yvesg Posted March 8, 2013 Report Posted March 8, 2013 Thanks José. This might be a good option. I will try somthing similar when the bird gets back from the paint shop. Yves Quote
