I need a mentor please. One (of two) I can ask questions without the scrutiny of the whole board. :)

I flew my first long for me cross county last week (4.2 Hobbs) and I learned that I have a lot to learn.

If you let us know which model your flying, and if the info your seeking is aircraft specific or general knowledge that would help. You are free to contact me off board @ co2bruce@bellsouth.net

You will get no end of offers for support and guidance; we've all been there and leaned on people who went before.  But it would make sense to find someone who's local and you can call frequently, maybe even go fly with. There are lots of people in Texas who belong to this Forum so I'm sure you'll find a good friend.

At the risk of sounding negative I think there is an opportunity to reflect a bit on how "opinions" of some members come across on this board.  The fact that Mcstealth requested "without the scrutiny of the whole board" is telling.

Sometimes I see opinions posted in such an arrogant manner that I dont even want to read them.  Or sometimes responses take on a flavor of "how stupid are you?" that I would be less inclined to ask for advice in the future.

I hope I don't get slammed for this.....because certainly it is not the majority of posts......but I would hope we could share experiences, offer opinions and help people with problems constructively.

I read this the opposite way. McStealth makes it sound like he did something so extraordinarily wrong that he'd be too embarrassed to share it. Yet, it is from these shared experiences that the rest of us learn and thus why we have a public forum. Reading about the guy who retracted his gear after landing or the other one who nicked his prop and went around raised some very eye opening points. I don't think anyone on the board is hard on someone who fesses up when they screwed up. Unless it's something extremely illegal, sharing it with the board is the more honorable thing and may help someone else in the same position in the future.

I think MooneySpace for the most part has been a great place, and while yes certain personalitites and opinions at times can be grating to others, I'm comfortable telling most of my bad stories, but I admit, I've kept somethings to myself.

David, I plan to get my CFI at some point, but I am not a CFI at this time.  Please feel free to PM me.  I'll send you my other contact information if you'd ever like to chat.
