TLSDriver Posted December 1, 2012 Report Posted December 1, 2012 It has been 10 years since I did a rating with a student and I need to get the rust off. I may need three different books. A manual to teach flight maneuvers. (stick and rudder skills - old school) Scenario based training (the new buzz) Lesson plans so that I can organize my training and make sure I dont short change my student. Any ideas for any text would be appreciated. Thanks in advance. David Quote
Will W Posted December 2, 2012 Report Posted December 2, 2012 First off, do you own an iPad? It makes carrying publications easier. All of these are PDF and can be saved on the iPad. I'll help by giving the free options. Go to the faa website and get a few things. http://www.faa.gov/library/manuals/ Start off with the Airplane Flying Handbook. That is a great FAA Publication with all the maneuvers listed in the PTS. The scenario based training that I personally provide is more based on what I create based on what might help the student most. Some words with senario based training that the FIRCs are usually talking highly of is FITS. You can also get that on the FAAs website for free. These are lesson plans in themselves, but are very long winded. http://www.faa.gov/training_testing/training/fits/training/generic/ Hopefully this is a good start for you. All this can be better answered with mentioning what specifically your first student is working on. There are other manuals to use for instrument ratings. Last but not least, here are the current PTS manuals for free. There have been lots of updates recently so read the new maneuvers. i.e. emergency descent is now a required item on the private pilot SEL ride. http://www.faa.gov/training_testing/testing/airmen/test_standards/pilot/ Enjoy Quote
TLSDriver Posted December 2, 2012 Author Report Posted December 2, 2012 I didn't even think about loading these on the iPad. What a great idea! Let the downloading begin. Thanks for the resources and ideas. David Quote
Will W Posted December 2, 2012 Report Posted December 2, 2012 What aircraft would you be teaching in? It's likely that there is the information manual on the plane in PDF format also. One more thing to save on the iPad. Quote
Will W Posted December 4, 2012 Report Posted December 4, 2012 Assuming this is the G1000 Skyhawk you're teaching in, here is a link to the pilots information manual. http://textron.vo.llnwd.net/o25/CES/cessna_aircraft_docs/single_engine/skyhawk/skyhawksp_pim.pdf Quote
