I have a 1967 M20F. I had a leak in the hydraulics for my flaps about a year ago. I had it fixed, and now there is another leak. Is this just a coincidence or is it a common problem?

I had my 68F for 10 years and thankfully never had a problem with the hydraulic flaps. @Shadrach is our local hydraulic flaps expert. He can probably tell you. Usually once they’re set up well, they work fine.

And where was it leaking from the first time you had it fixed?

It would be unusual for seals to leak after a year. They often go decades without problems. Post some pics of the leak.

Did you ever change the fluid line from the pump to the flap actuator?

If not its as old as the airplane and mine started leaking.

To replace it is a little project

As above- where is it leaking from? Same place as the last time?

The first leak was from the actuator. I'm not sure exactly where this one is. I decided to wait until the annual in October to have it fixed. I'm not sure about the fluid line, but you're right, if it's as old as the plane it's time to replace it.

Its as old as the plane for sure and so is your rubber manifold pressure line under the panel.

If you have a rubber fuel pressure line under the panel it might need a look see also.

I recently purchased a '67 M20F as a project. All the brake and flap hoses are original. I plan to replace all rubber hoses and replace all seals, gaskets and o-rings in the master cylinders, calipers, parking brake and flap actuator. I know it can be a bit pricey and a lot of time, but then I should be trouble free for a while.

I can believe that. I won't be surprised if the hydraulic fluid in my brake and flap systems are all gummed up as well.
