I've been trying to acquire one of these for weeks with no success. Vh-MZG is now on the ground as the engineer has refused the sign the existing non-functioning, burnt-out switch. Does anyone know where I can get one? I'll have a substitute installed with an "engineering order" if anyone knows of a good substitute.

Had the same problem with my Ovation. Frank Crawford advised me to install the new style switch that was used on the latest Mooney's. It fits in the hole. It does require a resistor in the circuit to drop down the voltage other wise the led bulb will burn out.

Here is the source for the switch:

Here is the resistor:

Here is my thread on the subject from 5 years ago.

If you want to stick with the OEM switch I may be able to help.  I recently upgraded my J model gear safety bypass button/switch with the type referenced by @GeeBee above so I should have my old switch somewhere in my several boxes of legacy equipment that came out of the airplane.  Let me know.

So, on the latest models (and now yours), the red override button bulges out from the panel?

Not any more than the original.

The data sheet for the new switch shows it protrudes .323" from the panel. The original on my M20J is flush.

That's about right. I installed the new-style switch for both the gear safety bypass and TOGA.  They're different part numbers but both sit 'proud' on the panel.

I have had bumps on the head protrude more. Don't ask how I got them.

I get mine from the prop when working under the engine.

I have several, including one with the wiring harness still attached for a quick replacement.

GeeBee,

For the Mouser Switch and Resistor modification, is there an SB or approved Mooney modification?

As @GeeBee said above, That button was used on other (later) models by the factory.  If Mooney affixed it to an airplane, that makes it official.

Here, I have one for you, wired up and ready to install.

Only that it is in the schematics for later models.
