rbmaze Posted June 11 Report Posted June 11 I have searched around but no luck on finding an answer to my question on this. I have an E model with the throttle quadrant. Do the older Mooneys have any bulb to light up the flap and trim indicators? I noticed a circular hole at the bottom of my quadrant and maybe a bulb could be fitted to this. I also wonder about rear illumination. Or is the design reliant on the map light from above? Thanks for any input! Quote

Not sure exactly, but most of tge old ones have a light that’s supposed to illuminate the fuel selector. Is it pointed that way? My F had one dangling just below/behind the instrument panel, but I didn’t have the quadrant. Quote
Matthew P Posted June 11 Report Posted June 11 Unfortunately the answer is no light...just like there isn't a light to show the gear lock indicator in the floor on the older aircraft. Only one is the light for the fuel selector lever in the floor, if it's NOT corroded up. Don't forget that you can check the Service Manual to get the electrical schematics to see what lighting you have and where. 1 Quote
BrianWilkins Posted June 11 Report Posted June 11 My 69 E has a light on the bottom of the throttle quadrant that shines on the flap / trim indicator. It's connected to the dimmer knob on the panel. Quote

That's interesting. I haven't noticed any illumination of my fuel selector. I'll have to check if there is a bulb or socket. Quote

I took a look at the service manual that's available in Downloads - #106. I can't make much sense of it as there are only letters. Are those different instruments/placards? Quote

The numbers are both circuit/wire IDs and part numbers; looking 'in the back' of SM106 you can find the parts list that will tell you their function. Quote
Matthew P Posted June 11 Report Posted June 11 Frank Crawford at Mooney is a great resource and very responsive...email him at Mooney. 1 Quote

201Steve Posted June 14 Report Posted June 14 My 77 J has a tiny bulb and socket just above the indicators that shines down on the indicator. It’s a small metal shrouded screw-in with an opening only in the direction of the flap/trim indicator. Both the bulbs and the sockets are off the shelf parts with a little digging. My map light under the yoke is the same, I just replaced both the bulb and socket. another thing you can do when hunting parts is open up the IPC in an adobe reader and search for words within the text. “Light” or “bulb” or “indicator” and it may reveal what you’re looking for. Pretty cool that the computers now understand the text in scanned documents. Quote
