Medflyer Posted Thursday at 02:35 PM Report Posted Thursday at 02:35 PM Good morning fellow Mooney drivers! Have received great responses about the replacing of the windows and found a shop to take care of it. Now they are asking the hard questions. Thicker versus thinner panes (I don’t recall the exact thickness). I imagine thicker panes windows means less noise and less tendancy to crack? Also…vented pilots and co-pilots windows. Oversized vents or normal size? I have scoured my POH for operating limitations, ie…can they be opened and closed during flight and cannot find any reference to it. So…lack of reference means no limitation? seriously, you guys have been great on this forum and I look forward to hearing your thoughts. Bill Quote
jetdriven Posted Thursday at 03:52 PM Report Posted Thursday at 03:52 PM Standard thickness side windows are fine and the standard vent is fine too. If you want a vent on the copilots side in the door window, you could do that but most people just open the door so I think it's a limited use. The quarter inch windshield is worth doing, but you have to bevel or sand the edge enough and create a step so that it will fit in the channel. It's another 3-4 hours of labor. But I think the quarter inch windshield is a good idea for hitting birds at 200 miles an hour. Do yourself a favor and get the solar control UV gray. 3 Quote

The cost of 1/4 on the sides is minimal and no additional labor. I would think any mass would help with noise but am dubious as to the actual benefit. I planned on doing the 1/4” all around. I personally would not like the obstruction of the vent in the copilot window and 90% of the time find the kool scoop so effective I don’t have to leave the door open at all. Quote
