Greetings All! Long time lurker and first time poster. Finally have decided to purchase a Mooney for our X-C family cruiser. Located in the Southeast with flying 90% limited to the region, so looking for a J which seems to check off all the boxes. (Reading posts on Mooneyspace has been a savior in making informed decisions and educating myself about this wonderful aircraft type).

I have seen the aircraft available on the market on traditional aircraft sales websites in addition to staying up to date on Jimmy G's new to market updates. I wanted to throw out a post to see if there are any MS'ers that are thinking about selling their J or perhaps will be in the very near future. I, as well as the rest of the Mooney J potential acquirers it seems like, am looking for a mid to low TSOH, regularly flown and maintained, and a decent IFR package (not looking for all glass, but something that has been upgraded instrument/avionics/radio wise since the airplane was manufactured).

Please reach out if you have anything available and are willing to discuss selling it. I appreciate it and the folks here providing great knowledge. Looking forward to being a Mooney owner soon!!

you might want to write letters to eligible J owners, the serial numbers of all Mooneys ever built can be found on the web, then you can look the owners up on the FAA website, 100 letters typically trigger one response, I get letters like that from brokers a couple of times per year. A letter from a private buyer is viewed differently and might nudge an owner to respond who is just thinking about it, I keep fingers crossed

Thanks, Fritz! I appreciate the idea! Will look into it.

paint scheme isn’t something to write home abou, but low time, great avionics, and super great price.

I saw that one, but shows sale pending. I really liked the avionics set up in that airplane. Hoping the new owner enjoys it! Thanks for the link though.

I can’t believe I’m typing this…but that seems priced a bit low. But a good price point. I wouldn’t be surprised if the buyer offered over asking. Nice plane with some nice updates that don’t break the bank.

Tip if you’re planning on using any kind of lender - they can be really picky on engine time. Check and find out what their limits are to avoid any wasted time. If doing cash, all the better.

Good luck!

I always think it's weird when I get a personal letter in the mail from a complete stranger wanting to buy an airplane, but I'll admit that if I were looking to sell, I'd be a lot more interested in selling to an individual who went to that much effort to find a nice Mooney.

For whatever it's worth, my experience with the flashy aircraft sites isn't as good as with the lackluster ones.  For some reason, people who drop a lot of money on flashy ads aren't as interested in sitting around chatting about Mooneys as the people in the cheap seats - and the flashy sites far more often get you a broker on the phone instead of an owner.  Don't discount Barnstormers as a decent classified site - it looks like it's 1996 all over again, but they have pretty decent inventory, and it's mostly real people selling real planes using photos they took with their phone.  Also check out the Mooney Flyer, as well as the FB groups and PoA etc.  Lots of free places where people who aren't quite ready to drop money on Controller are gauging interest in their planes.

If you are a cash buyer, might make a contingent offer on that one; if the current buyer has the financing fall through...just sayin'

Agreed.  Any number of reasons the sale could fall through.
