I just noticed that my last annual, the airframe logbook references an annual, but the engine and the prop logbooks reference a 100 hour inspection.

Does that sound right to everyone?

https://www.faa.gov/media/12041  "As explained below, we conclude that a maintenance record entry documenting the completion of an annual inspection is required only for the aircraft. However, the holder of an inspection authorization may also document the completion of an annual inspection in a maintenance logbook for equipment other than an aircraft, such as a logbook for the engine or propeller."

At my MSC the log entries for the engine and prop say "100 hr inspection for annual completed..." whereas my airframe log entry says "100 hr / Annual Inspection completed..."

Sounds like standard practice.

The usual wisdom that we hear at our local IA seminars from the FAA folk is that annual inspections apply to airplanes, not engines or propellers or appliances.  That's the basic reason that many IAs document inspections that way.   The requirements for an annual and a 100-hour inspection are identical, so it is not inappropriate to document a 100-hour inspection for an engine or propeller to commemorate the inspection.   If the engine or propeller are removed and put on an aircraft that requires 100-hour inspections (e.g., a flight school), that record can follow with that engine or propeller.

I asked a similar question a few years ago and had good input from MS experts:

The annual only needs to be recorded in the airframe logbook. If any maintenance was performed on the engine or propellor, it must be recorded. So it would be perfectly fine to just record things like “cleaned and regapped plugs, changed oil, changed oil filter, inspected oil filter and suction screen, cleaned and inspected.” Etc. There is no requirement to log any annual or 100 hour inspection in the engine or propellor log books. Unless it is required by some AD or ICA.
