231flyer Posted April 23, 2012 Report Posted April 23, 2012 I have noticed our mechanic population at KDTO has increased significantly since 1998. When we moved to the Denton Airport we only had a single mechanic shop on field. We now have 8 shops at Denton and the last two opened doors in the past month alone. Ofcourse many shops came and went out of business in the interim but 8 shops (plus 2 avionics shops) would seem like something is thriving in GA. Have you all expereinced growth in your local mechanic population or is Texas/DFW attracting APs like other businesses from the rest of the country? Quote

N601RX Posted April 23, 2012 Report Posted April 23, 2012 We are close to Ft.Rucker, which is the Army's main helicopter training base. The number must be upward of 100 for the area. I think there are around 8 at our airport, but not all of them are activly looking for planes to work on other than their own or some who they know well. Quote
David Mazer Posted April 23, 2012 Report Posted April 23, 2012 At my airport, KSFB in Sanford (home of all too much recent news coverage), our A&P population has been decimated. There are some A&Ps that do some freelance work and there are a couple FBOs with some A&Ps but the other shops have closed one after another over the last few years. Quote

Hank Posted April 24, 2012 Report Posted April 24, 2012 Our Maintenance Shop is growing. They've added several new A&P's and now have a second IA. All are gaining Mooney experience, and not just on my plane. :-) Quote
