Im about to purchase an M20J 205 with an upgraded IO 390 engine and Im looking to see if anyone has a performance profile for this setup?

Search.  There are several threads on this and some other boards about the IO-390 conversion.

But think of this, a 231 and 252 are 210 HP also.  So should be similar to them down low, but is not much difference.   You need a LOT of HP to go faster.

It climbs a bit better and you get a couple of knots more.  At cruise power, you’ll only have ~7 more hp.  Roughly.  From the other folks on here, the change was noticeable mostly in climb.  Less so in cruise.

It’s a newer design and has all the improvements incorporated into the newer versions of the io-360.

I see that IO-390 as a super idea going from a 180.

Like the Extreme Decathlon.  Super is AEIO-360 180 HP, Extreme is AEIO-390 210 HP.  30 HP is a HUGE difference in take off and climb performance.  And vertical performance for aerobatic aircraft.

Yes but for M20F that is only 5% increase in the power which equals 1.6% increase of the speed.

Climb performance would be noticeable, though.

It's limited to 5 minutes above 200hp as well.

If you aren't above the altitude where you're making more than 200HP in five minutes, you're doing it wrong.

Are you sure about that?

I can only find the EASA approval and it says Max Continuous of 210 HP.
