DonMuncy Posted January 29, 2012 Report Posted January 29, 2012 I just got an IPad. The only app I installed on it is Foreflight. When it is turned off, at random times it will emit a beep. Is this normal. Can I make it stop. I suppose with a single beep 2 or three times a day, It would take forever to run the battery down. Quote
Txbyker Posted January 29, 2012 Report Posted January 29, 2012 Don, When you say "turned off" do you mean you are holding in the power button until it turns off or are you saying when the screen and system does its normal power off it beeps? You might check settings->general->sounds and see if you have any special sounds set for certain actions. I have heard some my have memory issues that make the unit beep. You may want to turn the unit completely off by holding in the power button a couple of seconds until it lets you turn it off. Then wait a few more seconds and press and hold the button again to turn it back on. Maybe it needs a reset. Russ Quote
DonMuncy Posted January 29, 2012 Author Report Posted January 29, 2012 I have been turning it off with the button at the top of the unit. It is an IPad 2, if that makes a difference. Is it supposed to be turned off by holding down the button that turns it on? Thanks. Quote
jeckford Posted January 29, 2012 Report Posted January 29, 2012 The only way to completely power off the ipad is to hold the power button (top right) and home button at the same time for several seconds and then swipe the screen when prompted to power it off. I never do this...only when needed to reboot if something is acting "buggy". You can simply shut it down as you are doing by pushing the power button, but the apps are still running in the background and it uses very little battery. Have you setup email? As I am typing this on my computer my blank screened or sleep mode ipad just beeped due to an incoming email. Quote
DonMuncy Posted January 29, 2012 Author Report Posted January 29, 2012 Russ, I think I have discovered what is going on. Apparently the IPad is telling me I have mail. I didn't know it tapped into my mail (especially since I didn't tell it to). But as I was fiddling with it, your message came in on it. It's hell having machines smarter than I am. Thanks for the help. Quote
DonMuncy Posted January 29, 2012 Author Report Posted January 29, 2012 Thanks Jim. I may well do that. I really don't use (and don't think I will be using) the Ipad for anything except flight charts. Quote
