treebobboy Posted January 12, 2012 Report Posted January 12, 2012 I've got an unusual problem. I picked up my newest buy a couple weeks ago, a '68 M20G Statesman, and on the way home, the overvoltage light came on. The ampmeter indicated a discharge, so I shut everything electrical down and made it back to my home airport. I charged the battery real good a couple days later and everything checked out fine on the ground run. Took up for a flight and on my second circuit around th pattern, the overvoltage light came on again. Landed, checked with my mechanic and he recommended changing the voltage/overvoltage regulator (all one unit). Installed a new regulator and on the ground run, the light came on AGAIN, before I even got 30 seconds into the run. By pulling and resetting the generator field circuit breaker, the light goes out for about 5 seconds and then comes back on again. Any helpful direction with this electrical glitch would be greatly appreciated. I'm down to pulling the generator and bench checking it and then looking for a loose wire somewhere that is grounding out.
N601RX Posted January 12, 2012 Report Posted January 12, 2012 Which regulator are you using? I don't think the generator could cause an overvoltage condition, unless there was a problem with the regulator or one of the wires going the regulator. The sense wire going to the regulator could be broken or a ground missing.
treebobboy Posted January 12, 2012 Author Report Posted January 12, 2012 It was identical to the one I removed---------OECO 20082.
