We have the inertial reel shoulder belts in our j. The real is right by my head. In an off airport landing it's going to injure someone. Does anyone sell replacement shoulder belts like the factory belts that are fixed in place?

Alpha Aviation sells both fixed and reel style belts.

Sounds like he already has the Alpha units based on his description. The J's that came out of the factory with inertial reels have them in the floor.

My 1994 M20J came with floor mounted  inertia reels. They are Amsafe units. I actually prefer the fixed shoulder harnesses because I can stow them except during takeoff and landing.

the crux of the issue is my co-owner is short and I'm not, so he needs the pedal extensions and I don't. He can't fly without them and it's just uncomfortable for me so I have to fly with the seat full aft. Oh, and if I whack my shoulder one more fing time on the pax side one getting out of the plane I might lose it.

Man i was so close to getting them, and between the out of place loop and worried about hitting them getting in and out ob the px side.... this just reaffirms for me...

I'm short and sit with the seat all the way up. With the original equipment the shoulder belt would dig into my neck and I couldn't reach down to switch the tanks when it was snug. That prompted me to get the Alpha belts, which worked out great because I can move around freely.

But I agree that the reel on the passenger side sticks out way too far and is a nuisance.

as often as the reel gets twisted up on the shoulder mounted belts, I'd worry about having them jam up and being unable to fix it from the seat.

I never used to use the clip. Just let them hang.

I likely have a set that you can use.  Sounds like you have a suitable fixed attachment point for the shoulder belt.

As far as I know the factory belts just unbolt and the inertial reels just bolt to the same attachment. I never really thought about seatbelts in the previous two k models I had

Id definitely be interested

I know this comment is a bit late, but Hooker Harness also sells both the fixed and inertia reel seat belt/shoulder strap combo for a lot less than Alpha Aviation.

The factory seatbelts I have came from an Ovation.  The retraction assembly is welded to the steel cage near the floor.  I did this welding when I had the airplane apart and was doing my rebuild.  Installing the Ovation "factory seatbelts" is not trivial.  The inertia reels do not simply attach in the same way as the fixed belts would.
