SkepticalJohn Posted May 29, 2021 Report Posted May 29, 2021 (edited) Curious, has anyone been able to get Garmin G3X Touch to display flap, trim, and gear position in their K model Mooney (or any other certified model)? I'm sure it would take some LVDTs, LVITs, or potentiometers. I'm doing a complete panel upgrade and would love to kill all of those analog indicators on the center column. Anyone with experience or thoughts how to make it happen? Edited May 29, 2021 by SkepticalJohn Poor word choice Quote
Warren Posted May 29, 2021 Report Posted May 29, 2021 Not STC approved (legally with the certified version). Lots of options in the experimental version and not that hard to do. Quote
SkepticalJohn Posted May 29, 2021 Author Report Posted May 29, 2021 (edited) The certified version can do things not within its original scope. I know folks have put video inputs on a Beech A36 as a "minor deviation" during install (or "minor alteration" to an already installed system) of a G3X. https://www.beechtalk.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=21&t=180420 Would trim, flap, cowl flap, gear position indication not also be minor deviations? (Like this screenshot from an Piper Malibu, showing gear and trim positions) Zoomed in on the trim/flap indication Edited May 29, 2021 by SkepticalJohn 2 Quote
Danb Posted May 29, 2021 Report Posted May 29, 2021 There available on the G1000, therefore Garmin and Mooney has the software for the G 1000 no how to configure for the g3x Quote
gevertex Posted January 21, 2023 Report Posted January 21, 2023 Sorry to revive a dead thread, but I am getting a g3x touch install now in my J and I saw the GAD 27 which appears to have a PMA version and would allow this kind of information to be displayed on the g3x. https://sarasotaavionics.com/avionics/gad27 Would this work for a Mooney? PT20J Posted January 21, 2023 Report Posted January 21, 2023 The GAD 27 is used to supply power to the G3X during starting brownout in 14V systems and to provide wig-wag light functions in 14V and 28V systems. That’s all the STC allows for a certified installation. If you want to use some feature from the experimental version that is not in the STC, then you have to find some other approval means.
